GOOD REVIVAL The revival at the Baptist church is still in progress. The interest reems to be increasing. There has been a number of additions to the church for baptism and some by let ter. The pastor, Dr. Stevens, is do ing the preaching and Prof. Jordan of Boiling Springs, is in charge of the music. The public is cordially invited to attend these services. Dr. John H. Buchanan, of Paris, Tenn., was to have come to preach during this meeting, but on account of the illness of his wife could not come. Tr. Stevens is preaching some great sermons, and it is hoped that many mere will be reached before the series of meetins shall close. LOCAL HAPPENINGS Born,, to Mr. .and Mrs. W. H. Waters last Saturday, Oct. 18th, twins, a boy and girl. We regret to note that the boy died Sunday and was buried Monday afteroon in the local cemetery. Misses Annie Hall - and Muriel Barnes attended the Southern Pied mont District meeting of the North Carolina Education Association, which convened at Charlotte last week. They spent Sunday at the home of Miss Hall, at Belmont.. Rev. J. C. Keever and son, Homer, with Messrs. C. D. Hughes, S. L.. Thompson, G. A. Hines, G. C. Shu ford, and C. H. Swcfford attended the Methodist Conference at Greens boro. It is reported that Rev. Heekard, who, a few years ago was pastor at Spindale, will be sent here this year. Rev. J. C. Keever has made a host of friends in Cliffside and Avondale who will regret to sec him go from here. Mr. Robert James is visiting his daughter, Miss Pearl James, at High Point. 9 Miss F.va. Waters, who is training at the Presbyterian Hospital at Char lotte,, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Waters.. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Juett, of Fork of Elkhorn, Ky., are expected this week to visit Dr. Chas. H. Stevens. Mrs. N.. L. Harris who has been ill is improving. r Mr. George Simmons, of Spindale, was a visitor here Monday. Mr. Walter Haynes left Saturday night for Florida on business. V Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Miller, of Har ris, and Misses Rose Gaffney and Grace Harmon, of Henrietta, visited in Cliffside Sunday evening. m m m Miss Elizabeth Hackney, of Lex ington, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Hinkle. m Mr. Jay Garvin and sister, Miss Irene Garvin, f Greenville, S. C, spent Sunday here with Mr. and Mrs. Messrs. Ed. Carpenter and John Robinson went to Shelby Monday to bring the Cliffside Mills exhibit which was on display during the fair. Mr. Robert Padgett, of Morgan ton, is visiting his son, Mr. J. Y.. Padgett. Mr. Chas. H. .Haynes made a busi ness trip to Atanta this week. Mr, and Mrs Cornelius Martin and Miss Morjorie Horc attended the Cleveland County fa.r last Thursday. They also visited Cleveland Springs Hotel where they ha 1 luncheon. Mrs. Sara Bright and daughter, Miss Cleo Bright, Mr. James Bright i-nd family, of Gafmey, Have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. .Y. AVONDALE NEWS Quite a number of our people at tended the Cleveland County fair at Shelby last week. Cliffside Mills had a nice exhibit of their products showing the stages of cotton from the seed to the dresses worn by Misses Bertha McGraw and! Edith Greene, who were in charge of the booth. In this booth was a fine dis play of the goods made at Avondale also. v. Miss Lowrance, of the School fa culty, spent the week end at her home in Sharon, S. C. Misses Jennie Hawkins and Lu venia Collins, of Forest City, both students at Boiling Springs, spent the week end here at the home of the former. e Miss Hoffner, teacher of music here, snent the week end? at her home, at Crouse. Miss Nell Moore, who is a senior at Greeensboro College for Women, An orchestra has been organized 33 spending a few days here with her . at the Methodist Church which adds Avondale, Oct. 20. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Roach, Mrs. Lou Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Frye and family spent a pleasant aftenoon in Marion Sun day. Miss Eva Insley, of Forest City, spent the week end with home folks. Miss Mary Sue Edwards, of Cliff side, spent the week end with her sis ter, Mrs. J. G. Roach. Prof. F. S. Hall and brother, C. C. Hall, of Marion, spent Sunday in Asheville with the wife of the latter who is in the hospital there. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Houser and Miss Esther Yelton,, of Rutherford ton, visited at the Haynes House Sunday aftenoon. Mr. and Mrs. McNeily had as their guests Sunday, M. McNeiley's two sisters, ,of Lincolnton. Dr. T. C. Lovelace and wife were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Owens Sunday. The small son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Huskey has been real low with pneu monia, but is some better. We hope he will continue to improve.. We regret very much that Rev. Keever and family will not be with us this year. They have been with us three years and have made many friends. Mr. Keever has filled his charge well and we feel that he has oeen a great help to the church and Community. We understand that Rev. M. W. Heekard will have charge of the Cliffside and Avondale churches. Avondale has an eight gin system no doubt one of the latest and most up-to-date outfits in this part of the country. Last week was a busy wreek. One hundred and one bales were ginned in one day. This was a record breaking day. Miss Gladys Waldrup teacher of the fifth and sixth grades entertain ed her pupils with a weiner roast on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30. While some were roasting weiners others were enjoying music and games. The depared declaring that the evening had been thorough ly enjoyed. On Tues day morning, October 7th, a Frencl play, "La Fortune de Monsiem Itemi" was presented by this club. The: play is a home production. Mr. Erwin was giving the class a lecture on animals. He was talking about the rhinoceros when he noticed they were inattentive. "Now ! class," he said "if you want to real-! lze just how hideous this animal please look at me."
