AVONDALE LADIES ENTERTAIN
The members of the T. E. L.
class and the married ladies of the
Baptist church entertained the ladies
of the Methodist church. Saturday
evening, from 7:30 to 10 o'clock, at
the Watkins Park. An interesting pro
gram was given, consisting of read
ings, jokes and music. After the pro
gram each member of the Baptist
church invited a visitor to go to the
table with them, where delicious ice
cream, cake and lemonade was serv
ed. The color scheme of green and
white was beautifully carried out.
After each one had been served the
ladies assembled back in the grand
stand and had a lively time talking
and chatting with each other. There
were fifty-three ladies present.
Every one went away declaring
they had had a lovely time and
wished they would have a social each

GIVE THOUGHT TO YOUR
FURNITURE PURCHASES
If you would give thought to your purchasing you
would buy the best furniture and living with
your possessions. And more than that, if we would
all consult our furniture dealer as frequently and as
interestedly as we do with our dressmakers, our home
would be furnished with that exquisite attention to
detail and style harmony which characterizes our per
sonal appearance. After all, a good home is a more
accurate gauge of our good taste and judgment than
the wearing of stylish clothes.
A visit through our store will convince you that we
carry furniture of style and durability and furniture
you will be proud of.

SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC
Henrietta, Aug. 3. —The primary
department of the Henrietta Baptist
Sunday school, under the direction of
Mrs. A. L. West, went to Hollis Sat
urday afternoon for a picnic. There
was about 100 joined the party, in
cluding some grown-ups. The Hen
rietta Band accompanied the pic
nickers and enlivened the time with
good snappy music. After arriving
at Hollis and resting for a few min
utes, the party proceeded on to the
mountain where jolly good Mr. With
row was awaiting us at the springs.
After Mr. Withrow had greeted us
in his genial kind way, he turned the
entire place, over to the children tell
ing them it was theirs while they
were up there. Mr. Withrow has
beautified the mountain very much
by cleaning off underbrush, making
roads and fixing the several springs
from which bubbles good mountain
water. After all had arrived the
party hiked up to the top of the
mountain where the children romped
and played till they were tired and all
came down to the springs where a
sumptuous lunch was spread, all par
taking heartily. Soon the party was
homeward bound all feeling fine and
saying they had a wonderful time.
The Baptist Sunday school is
flourishing and Mr. I. P. Campfield,
our excellent superintendent, had a
broad smile on his face Sunday morn
ing. The cause of this smile was the
fact that we had 313 present at Sun
day school. Mr. Campfield asks that
everybody join hands and work to
gether till next Sunday so we may
have even more than last Sunday.

Mr. Queen had almost reached the
age of 72 years and had been a mem
ber of the Baptist church for a num
ber of years. To know Mr. Queen
was an invitation to do right. He
was a man of prayer. During his ill
ness his many friends that visited him
were asked to pray with him and
many did, and through the last hours
of life he spoke of going home so
we feel that his passing is our loss
and Heaven's gain.
The writer wishes to extend to his
family and relatives heart felt sym
pathy and trust that they may be
given great consolation in remember
ing all his worth and in the abiding
faith that a divine providence has or
dered all things well.
