R. BLANTON, Trustee. | | TO BUILD MODEL TOWN IN THIS COUNTY Draper Planning 2,000 - Acre Development On Lake Lure To Cost $1,000,000 At Least. E. S. Draper, well-known land scape architect and engineer of Charlotte and Atlanta, has been i authorized to plan and bring into existence at the earliest possible date a new town in Rutherford county, complete in every detail sur rounding an unique community cen ter, in which the development of recreational features will predomin ' ate. The model town, covering 2,- 000 acres of ground, will be located . i ! on the shore front of Lake Lure and calls for the preliminary expenditure of more than $1,000,000. j The route of North Carolina state I highway No. 20, Charlotte to Ashe | ville, now being relocated around ; Lake Lure dam, will be 75 feet wide i through the heart of the new town ' site and form the basis for a great white way, brilliant with many lights. ! Engineers estimate that the Lake Lure hydro-electric project will yield : 13 million KWH per annum, ten times the amount necessary for a ! village of 2,000 population. The ap proach of the highway entering the town will be over an ornamental ? : bridge of the Luden arch type, cross ing Pool creek just before reaching the main business center, j The many details involved will Ibe discussed at a conference to be held at the executive offices of Chim i ney Rock Mountains, Inc., in the next few days. Members of the board of directors and Mr. Draper have in ; vited experts to be present. Among ! these is Robert Rodes McGoodwin, |of Philadelphia, an architect of na tional repute, who has been associat jed with a number of town-planning ' projects. General plans and data for ,the development of Lake Lure made : during the past two years will be J personally checked over at various j points throughout the estate, making j possible definite decisions for expe diting development operations, j Tentative provision has already been made for some of the major fea tures, such as a group of municipal buildings, pier and boat landing, a ! 1,000 foot sandy bathing beach, ' aquatic amusement resort, board I walk along the shore, esplanade and I boulevard, construction of the first j commercial hotel, casino, business houses, streets, sewer, lighting sys tem, community assembly hall, bun galow tourist camp and aviation field. Plans for a pavilion and ornamental j concourse will be among the first im provements to be completed, i Residential areas restricted to va rious uses, from apartments to spa cious lake shore estates, will over look the lake and business center lof the new town from the crest of the ridges and extend along the shore of the lake and state highway to the precipitous mountain slopes in the rear. It is expected that fully 1,000 | acres of residence property will be beautified and platted at once and i numerous bungalows and houses com ! pleted and ready to move into by next summer. j Mr. Draper's landscape and engi ! neering organization for this project ; will be established near the town j location and work pushed to comple jtion as rapidly as possible, keeping ! pace with construction of the Lake j Lure dam now well under way, under the supervision of Mees and Mees, ' hydraulic engineers. I MM Astonishingly quick and complete ia the relief that people feel from rheu matic pain just as soon as they use this simple treatment. I was suffering with rheumatism and under the care of a doctor," writes H. B. Smith of 12G McAllister St., San Francisco, Calif. "Fortunately I heard of Sloan's Liniment and after using it for three cr four days was fit and well." How does Sloan's get these aston ishing results? Because it does not just deaden the pain: it gets at the cause. Right to the aching spot it sends a healing tide of fresh, germ-destroying blood. No need to rub. The medicine itself does the work.
