SPINDALE NEWS Spindale, May 4.—Mrs. Emma Dunn, who has been ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. L. Cook, is able to be up again. Mr. Herbert Crenshaw spent Sat urday and Sunday with his sister, Miss Ora, who is a student at Queens College, Charlotte. Misses Blanch Odom and Margaret Mclver were business visitors to Charlotte, Saturday. Miss Florence Howard who was called to Newport News, Va., by the serious illness of her sister, returned to Spindale Saturday to resume her duties as assistant to Rev. W. L. Latham. Special Mothers' Day services will be conducted at the Methodist church Sunday evening, May 9. Members and friends of the congregation are cordially invited to be present. Rev. W. L. Latham who has been ill, was unable to fill his appoint ment at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening. Judge O. C. Erwin made a splendid address on "Faith" which was an inspiration to those present. Mrs. Beaty and son, of Charlotte, spent Sunday the guest of her moth er, Mrs. Emma Dunn, who lives with her daughter, Mrs. G. L. Cook. The following ladies of the Spin dal e - Rutherfordton Presbyterian church attended the meeting of Presbyterial in Belmont, Thursday and Friday of the past week: Mrs. W. O. Watkins, Mrs. Frank Hampton, Mrs. O. C. Erwin, Mrs. Clyde Wil liamson and Misses Ellen Erwin and Florence Howard. Miss Julia Morris who is attend ing school at Boone, will arrive home today to spend the spring holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Morris. Miss Kitty and Masters Randall and Adrain Hovis, of Lowell, were guests of their aunt, Mrs. Pasuer, Sunday. Miss Jessie Harper Brown spent the week-end at her home in Mon roe. Miss Lela Morris was a business visitor to Spartanburg, Saturday. Mr. N. G. C. 7 Day May Sale 1 1 WATCH CIRCULAR I FIRE PROTECTION FOR LAKE LURE Chimney Rock, May 4. —Marking I the beginning in the southern hard- wood region of entensive forest pro- ■ tection by private enterprise, steps have been taken by Chimney Rook Mountains, Inc., to provide in the immediate future a comprehensive fire-fighting and protective system which will embrace a full-time war den and assistants, lookout towers, patrols during dry seasons, modern equipment and a fire truck. This will be augmented upon the completion of Lake Lure by the latest type of fire boat tor use in the protection of the myriad motor and other craft expected to frequent the 1,500 acre lake, as well as reducing the fire hazards upon the extensive water front properties now being de veloped. Selection of J. T. Alexan der, now district fire warden under the North Carolina conservation and development has been made to bring about the desired system, according to announcement of Dr. L. B. Morse, head of the organization now creat ing the Lake Lure resort. Necessary equipment for the protective system has already been ordered. BOSTIC NEWS NOTES Bostic, May 4.—Miss Merle Davis, of Sunshine, delightfully entertained a number of her friends Saturday May 1, at a unique party. The following were the guests of Miss Davis: Mrs. Buford Flack and Miss Luna Taylor, of Forest City; Misses Wash burn, of Bostic; Jean Andrews, Mary and Sue Logan, Merle Davis, of Sun shine; Messrs. Kenneth and Victor Logan, Jim Andrews, Howard Wells, Reuben, and E. T. Washburn. The crowd gathered at Miss Davis' t home at 4 o'clock and hiked to the | top of Cherry Mountain to watch the ! sun set.
