BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES-
Account of so many of our peo
ple going to the several memorial
day services held last Sunday our
attendance at the Sunday school fell
below the four hundred mark.
As the pastor, Rev. R. C. Smith
was away attending the Southern
Baptist convention at Houston, Tex.,
there was no preaching" service last
Sunday, but many of the Baptist
people attended the services at the
Methodist church. A.t the close of
the Sunday School Miss Rosa Lee
Anderson, of limestone College, sang
a beautiful solo.
Sunday evening there was a song
service. The choir and people of the
Methodist church having been invited
and joined in the service. Many of j
the old hymns were sung and at this
time it was suggested that on some
future date the choirs and members
of the other churches be invited to
take part in "a service. "An Evening
With the Old Hymns." It was sug
gested that a .short sketch of the com
posers be given stating the event
or incident that inspired the writing
of the hymn, then having the hymn
sung. Some as solos, duets, quartets
or as a chorus. The matter was
left with the directors of the Baptist
and Methodist choirs. M. T. Greene
and 'C. D. Hughes, respectively.
Mr. D. C. Whitaker had charge of
the prayer service last week and will
conduct the meeting this week as the
pastor is not expected to arrive un
til Thursday.
Sunday evening the following
telegram was read to the church:
Houston, Texas, May 15, 1926.
Have had great convention. Came
with some apprehensions. Returning
with thanksgiving and rejoicings.
General unanimity everywhere. Your
pastor sends love and greetings.
Let every one help to make today's
worship helpful. Pray for each oth
er, the work in Cliffside and the
uttermost parts of the earth. Remem-

How true.
Teach your son or your daughter that Franklin truth and
nurture in their minds the appreciation of the value of the
dollar while they are in the penny age. It takes a stronger hold
and becomes so deep rooted that all later influences toward
reckless spending and careless handling of money cannot de
stroy the habit of .thrift —the solid rock upon which all suc
