Ruby Gosey was the winner but all the girls made good speeches. Pauline Jolly, Mavoreene Lemmons, Gleen Kiser, May Greene, Stella Matheney, and Aileene Gold. * * * BOYS' CONTEST The boys' declamation contest was held Thursday night, May 13. The speakers were: Marvin Sparks, Paul Nanney, Eckles Hamrick, Willard Metcalf, Grifton Jolly and Izon Rob inson. The winner was Paul Nan ney. j FIELD DAY PROGRAM Much interest was taken in the Field Day program Friday. The pro gram started at 1 o'clock and lasted until 3-;30. The contestants in the various events did some very good work and a spirit of good sportsman ship prevailed throughout the even ing. Several amateur boxing bouts were staged. Following are the winners in each event: High 'dive Charlie Carpenter first, Berry Rhinhardt, second. Hundred yard dash—Jessie Mc- Curry first, Charlie Carpenter, sec ond. Fifty yard relay race tenth grade. Sack race—first, Jessie McCurry, William Allhands, second. Three legged race—Jessie McCur ry and Berry Rienhardt. High jump—first, William All hands; Charlie Carpenter and Wil lard Metcalf tied for second pla'ce. ROUTE 2 NEWS Forest City, Route 2, May 17. Rev. Z. D. Mrs. Nannie McClure who has had a position in Charlotte, has come to spend the summer. Ml*, and Mrs. D. C. Cole and children accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jay Cole and children, motored to Candler and Canton, Sunday. They report that they spent a very delightful day. Mr. J. P. Hardin has completed the bungalow that he has erected on the lot adjoining his residence. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Daniel will move into the house sometime this week. We are glad to have Mr. and Mrs. Danied in our little town. Misses Mattie Hyder's and Dora Ledbetter's Sunday School classes enjoyed a picnic Saturday after noon in Mr. C. L. Williamson's pas ture.
