HARRILL, ell n7C°'- THE FOREST CITY COURIER, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1927 Thirteen Winners Represent Six States Hundreds of essays covering the marketing c>i every conceivable farm crop in the Southeast were received hy the Sears IJoebuck Agricultural Foundation on the occasion of its recent marketing essay contest in Atlanta. Through the co-operation of the various agricultural agencies, including county agents, vocational agriculture teachers and boy and girl club leaders, • hundreds of essays were submitted. They were read very carefully and the writers .of the two best essays in each of the six Southeastern states were awarded prizes consisting of a gold Stone Mountain Memorial Medal and a trip to Atlanta. During their stay, the party visited the Southeastern Fair, the Georgia College of Agriculture at Athens, Stone Mountain, and other places of interest. The capital prize for the entire section was awarded to Miss Melba Sparks of Carrollton, Ga., who selected as her subject "The Marketing of Cotton in My Community." The picture shows in addition to the prize winners, Hollins N. Randolph (rear center), President of the Stone Mountain Memorial Association, who awarded the trophies, and George C. Biggar, Secretary of the Agricultural Foundation, who conducted the contest. MIDWAY NEWS Forest City, R-3, Dec. 14. —Miss Ruby Price spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Young. Mr. Henry Carson and Miss Reba Blanton visited Miss Esthleen Young. Mr. Loyd Owens and son, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Young. \ Mr. and Mrs. Tan Harris and Mrs. G. M. Harris were in Charlotte Tues day. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hendrick, of Shelby, visited Mr. and Mrs. J # L. Delahey Sunday. Mrs. Tom Grose spent Saturday with her father, Mr. H. C. Carson. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Green and children, of Campobello, S. C., spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Cash. Mrs. J. L. Delahey spent Sunday afternoon with Mtfs. Walter Dainel. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Harrill and daughter, Jewel, of Bostic, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gi'ose. PUPILS' RECITAL Piano pupils of Miss Katherine Goggans will be heard in an inter esting recital next Tuescfay evening, December 20, at the High School auditorium at 8 o'clock.
