gave him a birthday dinner. All
present seemed to enjoy the day.

Ellenboro, June 4. —Rev. Z. D.
Harrill greatly enjoyed a birthday
dinner at his home here May 29th,
he being 78 years of age. The num
ber of guests included his children
and his near friends.
Several hundred people, mostly de
scendants, gathered at the home of
Mrs. Margaret Louise Limrick on
Sunday honoring her 67th birthday.
A most bountiful and appetizing din
ner was served, picnic style.
The Ladies Circle of the Ellenbo
ro Auxiliary, and that of Bostic
Auxiliary were joint hostesses at a
birthday party at Bostic Friday
night, given at the church, to a full
house and appreciative crowd.
Mrs. J. A. Martin was hostess to
the members of the Betterment club
at a porch party, given at her home
Wednesday afternoon. Among the

FOREST CITY-ALEXANDER
TO PLAY LORAY HERE
The strong Loray mill team, from
Gastonia, will meet the Forest City-
Alexander baseball club on the local
park Friday, beginning at 3:30
o'clock. Loray has one of the strong
est amateur teams in the state, and
have not been defeated this year.
The Spindale-Rutherfordton team
was defeated here Saturday by the
locals in a spectacular game. The
visitors led in scoring up to the
eighth inning. With a score 4-6 in
favor of Spindale-Rutherfordton in
the seventh, the locals went to bat
in the eighth and with two triples
and five singles netted five runs to
win the game 6-9. Harris for Forest
City, and Simmons, for Spindale, did
,the pitching. Teaster, Jett and Bragg
! were feature men for Forest City
| while Harrill and Johnson did good
.work for the visitors.

Bostic, R-4, June 3.—The farmers
of this section took advantage of the
sunshiny days the latter part of last
week, as the rain has gotten them
very much behind with their crops.
Mr. Robert Freeman left Sunday
morning for Oklahoma to spend two
months with his sister, Mrs. John
Francis.
Mr. and Mrs. John Francis have
planned to accompany Mr. Freeman
back home August Ist.
Miss Mary Melton was the dinner

Elizabeth and Louise Gurley.
