Three brothers and three sis ters also survive her. She leaves, eighteen grandchildren and six great; grand children. Mrs, York's husbandj preceded her to the grave several j years ago, also two children. The grandsons were pallbearers, and were as follows: Messrs Oscar Carswell, Roland and Orland York, C. O. Ridings, C. C.. Carpenter and Pink York. The granddaughters act ed as flower bearers. They were Mrs. C. O. Ridings, Mrs. C. C. Carpenter, | Virginia, Mattie, Sue and Verle | York and Flavie York. Mrs. York was a consistent mem : ber of the Mount Vernon Baptist church, and had held membership there for a number of years- Just two weeks ago the children and friends of Mrs. York gathered and celebrated her birthday. Death Claims Mr. W. T. Carlisle j Bostic, Nov. 10. —Funeral service ! for Mr. W. T. Carlisle, aged 83, were I held Thursday afternoon, October 23, at Salem Methodist church, with his pastor, Rev. J. E. Hipp, in charge, assisted by Rev. I. D. Harrill. In terment was in the Salem cemetery. Mr. Carlisle died October 22, af ter a short illness. He was making; his home with his son, Mr. J. W. Carlisle, of Bostic, at the time of his death. He is survived by one son, Mr. J. W. Carlisle, of Bostic. His wife preceded him to the grave several j years ago. Mr. Carlisle was one of! the leading citizens of the Bostic community. OAK GROVE NEWS Bostic, R-l, Nov. 3.—Rev. J. E. Hipp filled his last appointment at Oak Grove, Sunday. This makes his fourth year on this charge. We regret to lose Mr. Hipp and his family. He preached a fine sermon on prayer after which he told how he had en joyed being with us. He leaves this week to attend the "Western North] Carolina Conference which con-J venes in Greensboro. A number of the young folks from this community attended a Hallowe'en party at Rev. J. E. Hipps Friday night, it was given by the young girls Sunday school class of | Salem Methodist church. All report 1 a fine time. The Epworth league continues to grow. Miss Edith Biggerstaff is pres ident of the League. We want all I the young folks to come and join. | The Leaguers are planning on at tending the county meeting at Sa lem Friday night. Mrs. P. D. Harrill who has been very ill the past week is improving ; nicely, we are glad to note. J Mr. H. J. Harrill had the misfor tune to fall and break three ribs last week. He is getting along nice ly. Miss Lucile Webb of Shelby, spent the week-end at home. Mr. M. E. Hawkins and family were visitors in Gaffney last Sun day. Miss Mae Harrill is able to be up again after an operation for appen ' dicitis. B.—Upon the close of the fraternity rushing sea son at Wake Forest college pledge buttons were pinned on 61 students by the 10 Greek letter social groups on the campus. The Pan-Hellenic council, central organization of the social fraternities conducted the pledging of the new men, most of them freshmen.
