Exchange, it is a pleasure to mention
those concerns which are the greatest
factors in the commercial and agri
cultural enhancement of Laurinburg
and Scotland county.
One of the foremost producers, buy
ers and shippers of cantaloupes and
watermelons in this part of the coun
try is the firm of J. T. Bostick & Bro.
of Laurinburg. This firm has been
established for the past three years
and each season has seen their busi
ness expand, and we are safe in the
assertion that this firm shipped during
the last season over five hundred cars
of 'loupes and melons from this sec
tion which is more than half of all
that went from this territory to the
Northern and Eastern markets. J. T.
Bostick & Bro. are not only the larg
est shippers, but in addition are one
of the largest growers of this delici
ous product in Scotland county, hav
ing hundreds of acres of land under
cultivation. They have fully demon
strated that they are not only success
ful commercial operators of the first
class but progressive farmers of the
shrewdest kind. The firm of J. T.
Bostick & Bro. is composed of Mr. J.
T. Bostick and Mr. J. A. Bostick.
J. T. Bostick & Bro. was one of the
first concerns to enter into the general
live stock business on an extensive
scale. Chiefly. the. business of the
firm is to buy and sell mules, horses,
wagons, buggies, harness and sup
plies. In addition to this they also
handle agricultural implements and
automobiles. To indicate the high
business connections of this firm and
the superiority of the goods handled
by them, they are the sole agents for
the world renowned line of Interna
tional Harvester farming implements;
Nissen, Hackney, Weber and Knight
wagons and buggies. They are en
couraging the raising of fine local bred
horses, the improvement of stock at
home, and they handle a good many
fancy saddle and driving horses.
This large firm was established
several years ago by. Mr. J. T. Bostick
who came here from Richmond county,
several years previously. Mr. J. T.
Bostick deserves credit for the good
that he has done in this community,
in an agricultural and commercial
way. He has always been for any
thing progressive in Laurinburg and
this county, and is a man with a
wonderful energy for work. He is a
member of the Board of Town Com
missioners, and stands high in the
Masonic Order. All in all, he is one
of our most progressive and public
spirited citizens, a young man who
fully deserves the success that he now
enjoys.

TEN BROTHERS.
In connection with the above inter
esting historical information regard
ing the period of '61-'65, another most
interesting fact has come to our at
tention, which shows the patriotic
loyalty of one of Scotland's families
to the cause for which the South so
nobly struggled. This family sent
ten brave, big-hearted sons to the
front and all of them did service that
reflected credit upon our community
and upon the State's proud war rec
ord. These ten boys were sons of the late
Rueben Jones, grandfather of our
townsman, Mr. Jas. A. Jones, and
were as follows:
William Jones.
Archie Jones.
Duncan Jones.
Jas. H. Jones.
Daniel Jones.
Hiram Jones.
Alex Jones.
Sam Jones.
Malccmb Jones.
Dougald Jones.
Of these ten brothers two are now
living, Mr. Dougald Jones, who re
sides in Marlboro- county, S. C, and
Mr. Sam Jones, of Laurinburg, R. F.
D. No. 3.
It's disheartening, we'll admit, but
only one of the gang can be elected
president this trip.
We insist, though, that there are
some women who can keep a secret.
Dead ones never talk.
There is consolation for some of
us after all. A man is never homely
to the woman who loves him.
When a man's a real man yoil never
hear him reminding you of the fact.
