ALL DRUGGtSTS SELL IT Raleigh, Nov. 16th At present price of fertilizing material, peo ple should bank leaves with dirt and by spring have a valuable compost for flowers, vegetables and other crops. But the burning habit, waste fuland dangerous as it is, seems to be fixed beyond correction ex cept by law. Insurance Commission er Young, in consequence of an un usual number of complaints about the burning of trash and leaves on the streets and in yards of laree and small towns in the state, has sent the following cautionary letter to Mayors of those towns where complaint has been made. "Dear Sir: "Information has come to this de partment that the burnine of leaves and other trash in the rear of stores and iithe streets of your city is be ing allowed. If you have not an or dinance against this, one should be passed at once. This is one of the most dangerous practices that can be indulged in." Trenching Leaves and Train. One of the department employees in this connection, says that for sev eral years he has trenched not only the leaves but the ordinary trash ac- eumulations about the premises. In the fall and winter he digs a ditch or trench on the edge of his gar den or flower bed. He fills this with leaves. Another ditch is duir richt beside this, the dirt going into the leaves and packing them tight. In this way in the course of the Rea son he gets his entire garden fhour oughly 'broke up' and fine draina of the top soil secured. By plant- time, he says everything is mellow, dry and warm, the rotted leaves and mellow soil below guaranteeing early and fine crops ovegeUbles or flow er thewholeftmmer. In tha eOUr of few years he xav h . heavy clay soil light Dorua and fr. tile by this method of saving leaves and trash. CORRESPONDENTS WANTED.
