OUTLOOK FOR TOBACCO CROP
IN EASTERN CAROLINA GOOD
Kinston, July 9 Crop conditions ;
in tastern Carolina are improving.
The prospect for better prices for!
tobacco is encouraging farmers. Au-i
thorities here expressed the opinion '
today that the weed will bring more j
than in 192S. This opinion was en-1
tertained by experts at the national
gathering of tobacconists at Virginia'
Beach last month.
E. V. Webb, a governor of the To
bacco Association of the United
States, today predicted prosperity for
the eastern third of the state this
fall. "I look for better prices," he
said. "Dealers' stocks are not large
and the demand for tobacco of the
better grades should be good."
Condition of the crop in this belt
has improved rapidly in recent weeks.
The yield will be off in some coun
ties but in the belt as a whole a nor
mal harvest is expected. The crops
of 1927 and 1928 were above normal.
