A delightful social hour closed the meeting with Mrs. G. D. Hill and Mrs. C. L. Beam hostesses. ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. C. There will be a house Plant exhib it onen to all members of the Com munity Club and all prospective mem bers. There will be judges and prizes will be awarded for the bet grown specimen. Reports of chairmen showed much activity in each department. Mrs Carrie Doxie will return today from Connelly Springs where she- has hi-.-n visiting her daughter. Mrs. Joe Matthews and son return ed this week to her home in Southern pines after spending some time in Beaufort visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Skarren. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Spruill and children of Rocky Mount spent' last week end here with Mr. and Mrs. John Rice. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brooks and lit tle son Brooksie returned this week from New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Van Martin and son Bobbie spent last week end in New Bern visiting relatives and friends. Mr. D. W. A. will be held Tuesday night, Novem her l'Jth at 7:30. Rev. Frank Hall of Moiehead City will speak. Every par ent is urged to be present. MISSION STUDY CLASS The Missionary Society of Ann Street M. E. Church held its regular week of prayer services at the church last week, with an unusual large at tendance. Much interest was shown. This week they are holding mission study class. Mrs. H. C. Jones, Mrs. Mary Privette, Mrs. Jimmie Fodrie and Mrs. William Potter, Jr., are teaching "That Other America." Fri day, November 15th a special pro gram will be given, and women of all churches are cordially invited, it was announced Wednesday by the Mis sion Study Chairman, Mrs. Laura Duncan. MISS RUDDER HONORED Miss Mary Sue Rudder daughter of Dr. :;nd Mrs. W. S. Chadwick was ui-leeted bv the members of tne Jun ior class of W.C.U.N.C, at t.reens boro, to take the part of the bride in the annual wedding of the Junior and Freshman Class of the College where Miss Rudder is a popular mem ber of the Freshman class. lne groom was Miss Daphne Savage of Norfolk, Virginia, a member of the Junior Class. Thf celebration took place Satur day night, November 2, in the Stu dents Building. The bride wore an AHrinn wn of white satin and car ried an arm boquet of white Chrys anthemums and ferns. The guests consisted exclusively of members ol the freshman and Junior classes. A reception was held immediately after the wedding in Cornelean Hall. Miss Rudder is a member of the Oikean Society, one of the first so cieties founded at the College. Allen and Mrs. Leslie Davis gave interesting accounts of the district meeting held in Vance boro; and Mrs. J. S. Gntsell, of the meeting of the Federation of Music clubs held in Mt. Olive. Mrs. F. E. Hyde of the ..welfare committee of both the club and" Am erican Legion auxiliary asked ' for any discarded toys to be left at the w at. nnv time. These will be re paired and used for Christmas giving. Anybody in town interested in . this phase of work is asked to contribute. The tubercular seal sale will begin Thanksgiving, and will be worked tVironp'h the schools of the county. Seventy five per cent of the proceeds does local health work and will re main in tne scnoois wnere seaio sold. The problem of keeping the High School open an extra month was dis cussed and referred to a committee for investigation, plans to be made at some later meeting. . National Education Week was ob The Lina BumDas Bible Class held its regular business and social meet ing at the home of Mrs. J. K. Tier ring Nov. 11 at 7:30. The meeting was well attended. Mrs. W. H. Bailey nresided. Mrs. Otis Moore gave a most interesting Treasury report for the mon th. renorting 20 cards sent to sick shut-ins and etc. The class, at the regular visit to the County home Sundav afternoon, will present each inmate with a basket of fruit and nuts, in keeping with the Thanksgiv ing season. The standing committee Beaufort and 25 grandchildren 30 great grandchildren. THIS WEEK'S Obituaries made splendid reports, and much class spirit was shown. The ways and means committee announced a benefn to be given in November and asked the support of the entire class. 1(50 visits were reported, and over 50 trays and flowers were sent. The pro gram was given by Mrs. J. H. Stubbs and Miss Martha Jones, and consist ed of songs, poems, and several book MRS. ESTHER ANN SPENCER Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Ann Spencer 86, who died Monday, November 11th were conducted from1 the home of W. H. Congleton Wed nesday morning at 10 o clock with Rev. C. T. Roger?, Rev. J. W. Mor gan and Rev. Lawrence Fenwick of ficiating. Interment was made in Ocean View cemetery. Twenty two of the grandchildren and 33 of the great grandchildren at tended the funeral. Pallbearers were tho grandsons'. Surviving are three children, Mrs. RAYMOND HARRIS Funeral services for Raymond Harris, 66, were conducted Sat urday at 1 :00 O'clock from the home at Atlantic, with Rev. K. Manure, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of New Bern officiating. Interment was made in the Atlantic cemetery. Mr. Harris died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Travis Willis, Hancock St. New Bern, N. C. Friday at 3:30 O'clock. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eliza Harris, one daughter, Mrs. Travis Willis, one brother C. F. Harris, Wash 'ington and four grandchildren. Pall ! bearers were James Mitchell, T. The regular meeting of the Ruth Bible class of the Ann Street M. E. Church was held last Monday even ing at the home of Mrs. J. A. Piver on Front Street. The election of new ofheers wa3 neld, but all of the old ones were re elected except the president, Mrs. .lamps Fodrie who resigned. Mrs. Seth Gibbs was elected new president and she presided at the meeting. Ihe lesson for the evening was the First Psalm. The best attendance of the year was reported with 27 members present. N. C. Front Street Mra. Wheatly Improving I Mr. James Wheatly accompanied by Kenneth Johnson went to Durham last Friday to bring Mrs. Wheatly, who has been receiving treatment at Duke Hospital home. Since return ing to Beaufort she has been very ill at the home of her mother. Her many friends will be glad to learn that she is very much improved. MISS NORCOM HONORED delightfully en tertained at a bridge party last Fri day night at her home on Craven Street in honor of Miss Evelyn Norcom. The home was beautifully decorat ed with fall flowers.
