Mrs. Joe Mathews and little son, Joe arrived in Beaufort this week where they will spend several weeks visiting Mrs Mathews parents Mr. and Mrs . Charles Skarren. Mr.. Mathews wi 1 join them here later. Mr and Mis. G. W. Duncan and son returned Sunday from a motor tour of Western North Carolina, and old Fort, Mrs. Duncan's former home. Graham Duncan, Jr. sailed Monday for Norfolk, Va., aboard the yacht Katrina as the guest of relatives, owners of the boat. W. B. Duncan of Raleigh who has been the house guest of Mr. J. F. Duncan has returned to his home. Mr. J. A. Cree of Henderson, form erly of Beaufort is spending some time at his home in Beaufort Mr. Joe Barbour and James Cree left this week for Washington, D. C. where they will spend a week visit ing. Miss Laura Mace has returned home after spending a while at Jacksonville, Fla., as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Wallace. - - - Mr. Gene Brown has returned to his home in Chapel Hill after spend ing his vacation in Beaufort visiting his brother, Mr. Aycock Brown. Miss Elizabeth Gaskiil who is in training in a hospital in Raleigh stopped in Beaufort this week en xoute to her former home on Ocra coke Island where she is spending her vacation. Friends of Mr. Rufus Seawell will be glad to learn that he is showing improvement. Mr. Seawell is a pa tient Scrymser Pavilion St. Luke's Hospital in New York City. Mr. Roy Eubanks who is employ ed in New Bern was a visitor in Beaufort Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Piver, Mrs. M. G. Pridgen, Misses Gertrude and Laura Duncan Pridgen of Chapel Hill spent last week-end here as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Piver. Mrs. Sallie Shelton, Miss Alice Heiner of New York, Miss Lillie Fles and Mr. Alexander Larie have just returned from a short visit to Charlotte. While there they visited Mrs. Shelton's sister, Mrs. Paul Rhodes. Friends of Miss Louise Styron will regret to learn that she is a patient at Potter Emergency hospital here where she underwent an operation on Monday night for appendicitis. Mr.' Leland Peterson and Arthur Lenox will leave Sunday for a two weeks vacation in Virginia. Miss Lucille and Elizabeth Thom as returned home Monday from Mt. Olive where they visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. U. E. Swann return ed home Friday after a motor trip through Western Carolina with friends. Miss Katherine and Georganna Maxwell of Atlanta, Ga., are visiting Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Maxwell. Mr. Charlie RatcHffe of Green ville is the guest of Mr. Ben Bell. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Feguson andj two children of Raleigh were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. U. E. Swann this week. Mr. Thomas Maxwell of Greens boro is visiting Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Maxwell. Mr. J. B. Moore of New York is visiting friends and relatives in Beaufort. Friends of Mrs. Daisy Hatsell will regret to learn that she is suffering from a slight fracture of the hip as a result of a fall on Wednesday. Miss Elizabeth Chandler of Dur ham is spending the week in Beau fort visiting the Carpenters at their cottage on Fulford Street. Mr. and and Mrs. Leroy Laney and son spent last week with his parents at Monroe. Mrs Grover Paul of Bachelor spent Tuesday in Morehead City and Beau fort visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Camp and small daughter of Charleston, S. C, have an apartment at the Ann Street Inn. Mr. Camp i3 stationed at Cape Lookout. Mr. Lawrence Rudder and Miss Mary Sue Rudder have arrived in Beaufort to spend the remainder of the season here with their mother, Mrs. W. S. Chadwick. Mr. T. A. Brinson of New Bern was a business visitor in Beaufort Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Harrell of Raleigh are visiting his mother, Mrs. John Harrell. Mr. Paul Jones and Mr. Tom Car row spent last week-end at Ocracoke. Capt. Broady Willis who is em ployed at Southport is spending a few days here with his family. Mrs. Alva Nance left Monday for her home in Cincinnati, Ohio, after spending sometime here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Willis. Messrs. W 0. Several WPA Officials In Meeting Here Today Several officials of the women's division of WPA are holding a meet ing in Beaufort today. Among those present beside? Road Adjustment Plan Progresses Satisfactory progress is being made in the matter ol getting the various counties' claims before the Road Bond Adjustment Commission recently appointed by the Governor sit at the Court of Equity to deter mine how much if any, these coun ties are entitled to have refunded to them by the State, according to a statement made by Judge Guy Elli ott, general Chairman of the Steer ing Committee working on this pro ject. More than, a score of counties up to now have indicated their will ingness to cooperate with the East ern Carolina Chamber of Commerce in presenting a united front to the Commission. "It is clearly under stood by the counties, that each county will file its own claim and present this cairn to the Commis sion at the proper time, Chairman Elliott said. While each county will file its own claim and present this claim in any way it sees fit, the molar support of all the other coop erating counties will be back of each individual claim.
