USE I -.i They Have Twenty Varsity "Mothers" 4 111 ' l Left motherless one month after their birth, these two babies now have 20 "mothers" each one a coed at Cornell university, Ithaca, N. Y. The babies, Rose Ann (left) and Mary Alice, were borrowed by the New York State College of Home Economics in order to provide subjects for students of the family life courses to "practice" with. No changes were made in the per sonnel of the commission with the ex ception of Walter P. Freeman be ing named treasurer, an office form erly held by George R. Wallace. Wal lace still retains the secretariel post. Other officers elected were: Stan ley Woodland, vice president; H. P. Crowe:', managing director; W. M. Button, general auditor, and E. W. Dozier, traffic manager. Election of the officials followed the apponitment of members of the commission, four of whom are ap pointed by the Governor and three by the city. State appointees are Dr. B. F. Royal and H. P. Crowell, Morehead City; L. H. Harvey, Kinston, and J. Y. Monk, Farmville. City appointees are Stanley Woodland, Walter Huf ham and G. R. Wallace. Crowell also is president of At lantic and North Carolina rairroad. Button and Dozier also are officials of the railroad. Since Crowell's appointment the port has shown remarkable growth, handling thousands of tons of scrap iron fro shipment to Japan in addi tion to other cargoes. In a public statement recently, Mr. Crowell said he expected the metal shipments to continue probably an other year, maintaining the inflow of revenue which the new $2,000,000 port has needed badly since begin ning of operation the latter part of last summer. Richardson, 35 6-8 acres for $10. H. D. Club Meets The Peletier Home Demonstration club met on Friday, May 28 at P. M. Meeting was called tc order by Mrs. J. E. Weeks, club president. The minutes of previous meeting were read and roll called by hte secretary. Reports were given by nine project leaders. Miss Clark gave a demonstration on cooking, us ing recipes from the May lesson sheet Baked eggs and potatoes, and boiled custard. There were only ten members present at this meeting and in order to promote better attendance the chairman of membership committee, suggested a contest for the remain ing six months of the year, two captains were elected who choose members from the club roll as one would for a spelling match. Each captain with her group will strive to see which will have the highest attendance, visitors to be counted too at the end of the six months, the wjnners will be entertained by the losers, he treasurer reported a balance of $19.11 after giving Misj Clark $5.35 to be used in the Coun ty Council.
