Depends On The Training Of The Youth Of Today I I ou uan nem Traditions eals Uphold The and 1 he Wherever they li.e in the United State and its possessions, regardless of race, color or creed, all boys 12 years of age and older may be mem. bers of the Dov Scouts of America. Pictured above is a typical American boy, and we sy typical because one oat of four boys in America today is a Boy Scout. Wherever you travel you will sooner or later see the familiar sight of the Boy Scout uniform, except ing countries dominated by dictators. The Boy Scout Movement is the first organ ization in every dictator dom inated country to be disband ed, which in itself speaks well for Scout training. Scouts can be found from Pt. Barrow, Alaska, Ameri ca's porthermost outoost, to Key West; from Maine to California; in the Philip pines and Hawaii; and vim, at the South Pole when Ad miral Byrd makes an expedi tion. Yet, there are commiinities in East Carolira without Scout Troops! To remedy this situation the Boy Scout Council is making a concert ed drive for fur3 to make Scouting available to more bevs than "ver before. If you, Mr. Ci'Tn, will di your part bv cc 4tributing lib erally to this program, Amer ica will be far safer for De mocracy, and her yoih will be far better trained to main tain that Democracy! And there is a reason! He knows that the Boy Scouts of America is an organization that teaches ar.d practices the American way of life. He knows that so long as America continues to instill in its youth both boy and girl the well grounded and unassailable belief that man has here on earth the GOD GIVEN RIGHTS TO LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS AND THAT THESE RIGHTS CAN FIND THEIR FULL FRUI TION ONLY UNDER OUR FORM OF GOVERN MENT, there is no hope that his foreign and pag- anistic ideologies will gain a permanent foothold here." "But we cannct permit his discarded-Iong-ago false doctrines to gain even a temporary foothold in America. Eternal vigilance is the price of lib erty! We must now, as never before, support those agencies which really make America secure in ternally. After giving precedence to the Home, Church and School, there is no agency with uni versal appeal that fits so well as the Boy Scouts. When you help Scouting, you land a punch that counts." Contribute Geneioudy When The Annual Scout Fund Drive Beams Pictured above is a lad in Cub uniform, and as is stated beneath the picture, a mem ber of the youngest program cf the Boy Scout Movement, for boys 9, 10, and 11 years old. East Carolina Council plans to promote Cubbing this coming year in every community willing to furnish leadership to these younger boys. Upon reaching the age of 12 the Cub will graduate into the Scout Troop. Every Institution sponsor ing a Scout Troop should consider sponsoring a Cub Pack, for here is the greatest factor for recruiting new Scouts devised. Institutions that do not sponsor a Scout Troop will clso find that the organization of a Cub Pack in the institution will later have a fine Scout Troop on hand as the Cubs reach the age of 12.
