Letters to the press reveal the fact that thoughtful voters are not unmindful of the effect of the pre sidential election upon the compv sitionof the Ui'ited States Court. This is a subject which does uot at tract the attention which its im portance deserves. The next Pr;- sident wiil be called upon prob ibly to nominate several justices of that court. It ia conceivnble tJiat the voters in November may indirectiy and unwittingly pave the to a most profound change in the atti tude of the court toward the Cons titution and its guarantees of per sonal property rights. A President with fjjljacious and dangerous ideas might be able to force the confirmation by the Sen ate of Supreme justices eiitertaining such ideas with disastrous ccmse- quences. In view of the centraliz ing process, which is bringing every important activity of the people un der the jurisdiction of the Federal government, the Supreme Court be comes more and more the bulwark of the public liberties.
