Miss Mabel Harris of Roxboro who has been the guest of Rev. J. A. Homaday and family re turned home Wednesday. A beautiful new carpet was placed in the Presbyterian church last week. Comptom who has been in a hospital at Richmond for several weeks is getting along nicely, and is expected home in about two weeks. The Burlington boys walloped it on the Chapel Hill boys Thurs day at the tune of eight to one. Game stopped at close of seven- , th 'inning on account of rain. Miss Elizabeth Fitch and bro ther of New York City who spent the past week the guest of their cousin Miss Sallie Foster and left Thursday for Mocksville to spend sometime the guest of their b'Tandmother. Beautiful i irthday Party. A beautiful birthday party ^vas given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Pritchett last Thurs day evening from four to seven by their oldest daughter Gladis Pritchett who celebrated her tenth birthday by inviting seven teen of her friends. The even ing was delightfully spent in playing out door games. Deli cious refreshments consisting of cream and cake was served. The time of depiarture came and the entire crowd wished as perhaps Gladis wished that her birthday would come two or 1;hree times each year. Meeting of Epworth League. The Epworth League held its monthly social and business meeting last Friday night from 8:30 to 11:30 at the home of Miss Nettie Daily. The most impor tant feature of the meeting was a contest to see who could make the most words out of the letters in the two words ‘ ‘Epworth Lea gue. ' ’ Miss Dora Hornaday, who made sixty*nine words was awar ded the prize a nice box of candy. Miss Daily did not forget the oppressive weather and delighted her guest by serving cream and cake. Quite a number of interes ting games were played and the number about 35 strong after thanking Miss Daily for her courteous entertaining adjourned Baraca-Philathea Entertainment. Notwithstanding the fact last Thursday night was one of incle mency the Baracas and Philatheas of the Baptist church gave a very enjoyable entertainment. About seventy-five were present. Mu sic was furnished by the Baraca orchestra also several quartetts were rendered by Profs. Spiker and Flick Rev. Morgan and C. E Shoffner. Refreshments consis ting of cream and cake were ser ved. Also an abundance of so cial chat was furnishe?d each one by each one present. It is said the Baracas have resolved, in the future, to always give all enter tainments planned regardless of weather.
