Sunday School every Sunday CJoniing at 10 a. m. John F. idol, Supt. Everybody Welcome, The curfew ordinance is in the interest of health as well as mor als. If we may secure that which will keep the boys and girls oif the streets after 8 P.M., from October to March, and aft er 9 P. M., from March to Octo ber, we shall be doing foundation work in healthy living. Under cover of Darkness lurk the evils which may finally send your boy to utter ruin. The task of bring ing up a boy or girl is not an easy one when environments are all that could be desired, and too often they go astray even under the most rigid dicipline, hence, all the more need protection un til there morals are firmly estab lished. Not only from the stand point of morals but from the viewpoint of health should this matter be considered. In the strenous age in which we are living, the adult too often is compelled to drop out of the ranks, disabled. What can we expect of the men and woman of the coming generation if we, as parents, allow them to waste their vitality while they are yet children? The growing boy should have the quiet of the home in the evenings, that his energy, used up during the day, at school or at work, may be amply repaired by refreshing sleep. If your sixteen-year-old boy has formed the habit of stay ing away from home three or four evenings in a week,,suppose you accompany him for a few evenings and see for yourself what the attraction is. If you are not careful you maj^ run up Lynchburg, Va., Nov. 3.—* registered package, containing! $2^,000, a remittance from a Bluefield, W. Va. batik to its New York correspondents, it is said, disappeared from the mails Friday night betv;een Blue field and Charlottesville, Va. The pouch containing tlie remit tance came here Frid ay night over the Norfolk and Western railroad and was handled through the mail transfer to the Southern Railway at the West Ersd station. Soon after leaving Lynchburg a clerk on the Washing Ion train telegraphed a report th;it he was short the package and that his way-bill did not correspond with the number on the registering lock attached to the pouch. "Because the town is small is no reason why these evils do not exist here—THEY DO EXIST. Protect the boys and girls; de mand laws that will protect them and having those laws, demand enforcement of them. Then, if after reaching maturity, after character has been formed, they fall in their weakness, you will find some consolation at lekst in knowing that you did your duty as parent. Are you doing anything tq ):^t- ,ter conditions in your tovsm' or are you sitting idly by, critising andjgrumbling at those who are making an honest effort? ' That selfishness whicli is com mon to the human family prompts us to do the latter. We plead especially for the youtli of our town. Deal kindly with the er ring one and teach him that it is essential that he be kept as pure as his sister. “A gOod man is the noblest work of God. ” EDITOR CHOOSES WOMEN JU8Y AND IS ACiUITTEO Los Angeles Nov. 3.—Califor nia’s first woman jury was em panelled at the suburban town of Watts today to try the case of A. A. King, editorof a l)cal news paper, v?ho was charged with jpub lishing sin article in violation: of a city ordinance. / King had consented to being tried by woman jury, expressing the belief that he would get a fairer trial than he wc»uld men occupied the box. His faith in women was rewarded by an ac quittal after 20 minutes delibera tion by the fair occupants of the jury box. The case which was without precedent in Californisi history was tried in the courtroom of Justice Cassidy. The first test of the women’s new citizenship rights attracted the whole town. The courtroom was crc»wded to the doors wth the husbands and friends of the 33 married women 27 years old ‘ ‘and'over” VHo had been subpoenaed as jurors. * During the examination of the venire one of the prospective jurors asked the judge if it was permissible to wear her hat in the jury box. The judge smilingly answered that it was entirely op tional with the jurors. Pait of the women continued to; wear their hats while the others moved them. Taft Grows Stronger Seth Bullock, of South Dakota, United States marshal a* id friend of Presidents, is in Washington with a glowing story of the trip President Taft is just ending. Mr. Bullock traveled wish Presi dent Taft several days, and left him “because he kept such bad hours, ” he said today. ‘ ‘Mr. Taft will be renominated of course, unless the East goes crazy,” said Mr. Bullock, “and South Dakota will be for him, no matter what the oi^position says about ic. The Prt sident’s trip has beeft^ a great 'success.
