RTJRj^5l1L OAHlRIER HAW RIVER ITEMS. Pastor of the M. P. - church, llev. G. L. Curry filled his pulpit Sunday to the delight of his p^ pie and continued the meeting until Wednesday night. He did the preaching himself and it was the plain, simple Gospel. The church closed its conference year with the pastor paid and all^ the other expenses of the church paid off, and they go up to con ference out of debt. They* have done well this year. W. J. Crutchfield who has been off collecting for a Store company returned home Sunday after week’s travel over the coun try. He said he felt gaited. Monday was very cold, and there was war made bn the hogs at this place. There were some very large ones killed Monday and Tuesday. We did not learn any of the weights at this writ ing. Will try to give some next week. J. L. Hughes received a tele gram announcing de-th of their grandchild Monday, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Craft Ray near Hills boro, N. C. He left on the 10:36 train. His wife was already there. Another flower trans planted from earth to the gp rden on high. They once lived here. Weep not fond parents, he will be waiting for you on high. You cannot-call him back, but you can go to him. Rev. J. C. Hocutt, the pastor of the Baptist church for next year, spent Wednesday night at Haw River. He expects to move on the field in Dec. and will en- tes the work here and at Gra ham. J. C. Lloyd was in town Satur day evening. We suspect he is getting his business in east Trol- ijiwood in shape. We will hear the gentle tingle of the wedding bell. You are 0. K. John, but don’t keep us waiting so long. Mr. and Mrs. J. B, Sharpe have the sympathy of their many friends in the loss of their little babe who was tenderly laid a- way in the Hawfield cemetery last Saturday by loving hands, to await the resurrection morn when the eternal day will dawn when you will see your darling child with the Heavenly host where you can join in the ever lasting song, happy thought. Miss Ruth Franklin spent a few days in Burlington last week with her brother Mr. Ernest Franklin. She returned home last of the week. W. J. Allen of High Point was in town last week shaking hands with his many friends. We were glad to see him looking so well. Miss Eula Graham of East Trolinwood made our office a, ple asant call Monday evening. Miss Grace Cates of EJurlington is spending some days with her uncle A. L. Cates., Wonder |f she will carry some one’s heart with her when she returns home? Miss Grace, you are all 0. K. Unde knd*^^uat , , 0. D. Gl^hn one of our best farmers is a' 'tater raiser from “fur back.” He raised 180 bu. on one-half ah acre, and'theyare fine potatoes. , But there is one thing sure, that ground will ‘ ‘no gOod” next year. There is nothing left but a few rocks and about enough clay to make a doz en pipes. The potatoes just “nachelly” pushed the dirt clean out of the patch, joking aside. ~ This is the best yield of potatoes have heard of this year, Speaking of potatoes, we got a man and two boys to get out our crop of sweet taters. We had 5 rows about so long, and got some thing over a dozen from each row. No good at all. 'Cant sell jubers for enough to pay for planting and harvesting. This is the worst yeald w^e have heard of. Our schools on No. 8 are doing business. We have good teachers and you may expect good reports from No. 8. H, h U. NO. 8. We regret to note the death of our good friend and patron J. E. Coleman. He was ona of our best friends and we shall miss him. He always had a pleasant word and smile for us. We extend oar heartful sympathy to his? family. May he rest in peace. The sick ones on .No. 8 art- im proving and we hope ere long that they may all have their full health. Thanks to our good patrons for nice vegetables and our last writ ing. Some have done some work on the roads. Even John Bacom worked a bad place or two near his house. He had to be able to get out from home. Thank you all—but dont, please dont leave so many loose rocks in the road, they make us use some very “loose” language, and we are sorry for it afterwards. John Paschal has a funny muie. He tried to climb a 'simmon tree Sunday, while John tried to “butt" down Jasper Ross’s mail box. R. T. Hayes our respected uncle, and his wife spent 3rd and 4th of this month at our house. Glad to see them. They had been to Charlotte to visit their son C. E. Hayes and stopped over on Snow Camp Items.
