Jordian iEdwards, one of the Allen kinsmen arrested yesterday charged with giving aid to Sidna Allen aM Wesley Edwards, the only two outlaws of the band who haye not biedn taken, got a grill ing at the hands of the detective chiefs today in the hopt that he might tell the whereabouts of his kinsmen. The mountaineer was firm and did not betray them. He scorned an offer that the $1, 500 offered for the men should be his if he gave them up. It developed that he is in Sidna Al len, s debt. Detectives have found a great many others in this coun try in the same plight who fear being suspected of aiding the of' ficers. A charge of venne for the trials of the murderers seems certain. Clerk Goad, the only officer of Carroll county court who was not killed in the assassination of March 14, is the principal Witness for the prosecution. The Aliens probably will not be tried in a court where no one of its officers was a prosecuting witness, A long distance telephone mes sage was received today froni Mt. Airy, N. C., quoting a run 1 mail carrier as saying he had been told by negsoes on his route that a battle had been fought this morning at Volunteer Gap, Va., between mountain detectives ant the two uncaptured outlaws who assassinated court officers at Hil - sviile Va. The story was tha the fugitives, Sidna Allen an( Wesley Edwards, and two detec tives had been killed. Subsequent reports from Mount Airy failed to confirm the report and dispatches from Roanoke, Va and other'points near the Blue Ridge mountains conviced state authorities that the negroes were romancing. School WiadoBi For Girls, At W^l^tey they have formu- latM the finest set of don’ts for college girls we ever saw, * 'Don't kiss each other in public high way, " is one; * ‘it’s awful to see a woman doinga man^s work." Others are: Don't flirt with the handsome fejj^ down village. His wife nw not like it. ^Don't retire with undrawn cur tains. The rubber industry is flourishing in other places than South America. Don^t chew candy or anything else while on the village streets. If you must chew, try the rag. Don't be a. freak. The squir rels have enough nuts to attend tonow. Don't show your dislike of a hated instructor. Give her some of your home-made fudge. These are all more or less good. The various points made here we pass on to the Presby terians and Elizabethans, who have doubtless given them! pronounced thoughtful consideration pre-1 ™ y health viously in other' forms. j Suffered With Throat Trouble Mr. B. Grace probably will be operated on next Tueseday after noon for the removal of the bul let which has severed his spina cord and now lies embedded in the spinal column. This decision was r^ched today by Grace's physicians, Doctors Turner aric Bailey of Newnan, Ga. Grace, it is stated, has not fully decidec whether he will undergo the op eration. Several days ago he insistec on such a proceeding, but his im, proved condition changed his o^ pinion and he now is considering taking a chance on getting wel without the operation. Mrs. Dai«y Opie Grace, accus ed by her husband of firing the bhotin an effort to get rid of him and secure his life insurance of $25,000, today moved from her quarters at a local hotel to private home in West End. She will remain here in seclusion un til the date of the preliminary trial, April 16. C. 0. Teate, an insurance a- gent, added another chapter to the Grace case today when in a published interview he told how rt had been planned between Grace and his wife for, each of them to take out $25,000 life in surance, made payable to ^ch other. According to Teate, Grace took his out first at the insist wee of his wife, but he told use^ him again about he would take out $%,000msurance on his wife, which she had promised to make payable to him. Teate says he went to see Gmce las^t week at Newnan, when m discussing the insurance matter. Grace repeated the charges he has previously made against his wife. Webb Avenne M. E. Church, Rw. B. T. (From The New London Corres pondent of The Albemarle Enter prise.) Two young men of Plyler were here Saturday - night calling on some of our fair sex, and owing ^h^ condition of the roads and the d^kness of the night, they thought it best to postpone their homeward trip , until daylight and so spent the night with the young ladies. *One of the young ladies evidently strained her vo cal organs, as she has been un able to talk above a whisper since that memorable night.
