Massie when the Allen clan shot up I Carroll county court, was made ' on the witness stand here today by Judge D. W. Bolen. Boian was the first witness sworn by the prosecution in the trial of ' Claude Allen following the com- ' pletion of the jury today. On motion of the prosecution ; Byrd Marion, one of the six men ■ arrested after the shooting, was released in $1,000 bail to appear at the July term of court. An Unpleasant Discovery. (Statesville Landmark). Mr. J. A. Rogers, employed in the factory of the Statesville Safe and Table company, has “sworn off” on chewing tobacco and for jrood reasons. While bi ting ( ff a chew from a popular hraiiu of plug one day this week he found in the plug the end of a human finger, which is now on, eqhibit at' the factory. The por tion of finger is of course mash ed fiat and dried, but is a human finger all right, cut off between the first and second joints. The supposition is that an operator in the tobacco factory had the mis fortune to get his finger caught in one of the plug moulds and af ter losing the finger didn.t take time to stop the machine to get it out.
