Wilson tonight Ihss a pluralito of ^,437 over Col koosevelt and it is generally cori- caied that he has carried the state. All of the precincts to be heard are outside of them iri the southern part of the State where futher pluralitp for Wilson were anticipated. The popular vote now stands; WHson 399’428. Roosevelt 389,991 Taft 250,2&7. The vote for Cook County was: Koosevelt 179,480; Wilson 138,- 223; Taft 79,924. In the 2,658 precincts out of 2,788 outside of Cook, the result stood: Wilson 291’205; Roosevelt 213,611; and Taft 170,363. It became apparentley to day that Wilson soon would pass Raosevelts vote. Through the (lay Wilson’s gain was gradual Then when he was approximately 9j0G0 ahead of ^Roosev^lt, , It was discovered thet the Presi dent-elect had been credited erroneously with 3,000 to many votes from Livingston /County. This decreased plurality gave hope to the Progr«^8ives, but it was short-liVed for almost every prencinct reported from them on increased "Wilson’s lead. Fire HaUs DemocratiesV Prade. Woodbury, N. J., Nov,6.—While the Democrats were parading this niorning about 4 o’clock the alarm sounded and the marchers broke ranks and went to the scene on Park avenue, where the home of Joseph Lehr was afire. An old man lives alone and had fallen down stairs with a lamp in his hand. Lehr was b^ly burned and cut about the face and head. The second story of the house was destroysd. Escapes h Awftil Fate. A thousand t)ngues could not express the gratitude of Mrs. J. B. Cox, of Joliet, III, for her wonderful deliveratiice from an awful fate. “Typhoid pnenmo- niai had left me with a dreadful cough,' ’ she writes. ‘ ‘Sometimes I had sneh awful coughing spells I thought I would die. I could get no help from aoctor’s treat ment or other medicines till I us ed Dr. King’s New Discovery, But I owe my life to this wonder- ful remedy for I scarcely cough at all now.” Quick and safe, it’s the most reliable of all throat and lung medicines. Linsey. , A group of fashionable women, acknowledged arbiters in the social life of this city, will meet some afternoon this week to discuss the '^turkey trot" As pataions of numerous "affairs” given by the younger social set they hold themselves responsibliB for the good behavior of their fashionpble proteges. ' Certain dances, which have degenerated—rumor hs» it—in to satumaiia as the hours grew small and the music struck up a faster measure, have impelled these mothers to take counsel with one another. They are not sure that it is wise are safe’ even decent to countance dances which are at best vulgar, and at worat lascivious. As a precaution, if for no other reason, these mothers should take the action they contempiatev But the ’^turkey trot" and kindred dances are only the expression of a tendency which has taken hold of the young people of the day, in and out of what is termed “society? It is the same tendency that prompts extreme and frekish dress; that demands a New^rt villa, a home in the Berkshirea and motor trip abroad al crammed into a summer vacation; that makes girls in thir teens ambitious to achieve fashionable marriages, with a devorce as soon thereafter as may prove convenient. It is the spirit unrest, disatisfaction, btening oat their chiWpen’B perspective.—Phila Times. THE BiHTLE STILL ON | ^ WALK^ EK^T change, hatred of ail that is monotonously respectable. It is a spirit that goes far deep er than the "turkey trot," a spirit that canot be dealt with as summarily as the dance which the mothers have found offensive Let them eliminate the "turkey trot" none the less, and then turn to the harder task of straig- Oyater Bay, N. Y., Nov. 6. Colonel Roosevelt surveyed the. field battle to-day and gather ed as much of the story of yester day’s defeat as he could^ piece together. Hia lieutenants in each State wired to him their reports, in many cases incomplete, and to-night Colonel Roosevelt still was in doubt as to just what the Prdgi*essive party had been able to accomplish in its first cam paign. There was nothing of the as pect of a beaten g?neral and no hint of defeat in his manner. Colon;}! Roosevelt said he wants to tell his supporters every whexe what he thinks of the outcome and th:: outlook. The only reason that he didn’t do so to-night was that he had not the factis at hand. “I want to flnd out just where we stand first," he exclaimed. VThere returns are' far from complete. When I have all the facts accurately, I shall make a statement. The only thing which was ac cepted as a settled fact at Saga more Hill to-day was that the fight was to go on. What me thods Colonel ^osevelt will adopt are unknown, even to himself. The showing which the party made, his friends said, had pleased rather displeas ed its leader. Colonel Roosevelt expects to drop back for the winter into the quiet life at home which he led before the campaign with trips to New York once or twice a week. He probably will be called upon once a month or oftener to make speeches, although he desires to avoid any long trips for many months to come. ■ v-'i- Very Serious It is A ^eiy serious matter to ask for one medicine and have th« wrong one given you.
