Democrat leaders in the senate apparently gathered added strength today in the movement to prevent confirmation of the majority of President Taft's appointments to office that will be made in the last three months of his administration. Almost all of the postoffice appointments wiil be “pocketed” by serators from the interested districts, Two nominations that came up in the senate comerce commitee today wer referred members of the senate who it is understood, are likely to hold them up. The appointment of D. 0. Newberry as collector of customs for the Albemarl district in North Car olina was referred tj Senator Simmons, and that of James J. Harbin of the Saluria district in Texas to Senator Bankhead. meeting which was reached unanimously, will be reported to the general assembly of the two denominations when tSiey hold the annual assemblies in Atlant i next Spring. Dr. Morris said there are 500,000 members in 4,500 churches in the two deno minations. They are served by 2,700 ministers.
