L'lredo, Texa^, Dec. 26.—Two thousand shop employes of the National railways of Mexico went on strike today because of the refusal of the managements of the railroads to grant an eight- hour day for workmen and an increase in wages. The strike was called simultaneously at Neuvo, Laredo, San Luis Poto, Mexico City and Agues Calientes. At Neuvo Laredo, 100 skilled mechanics and 100 other employes walked out. The shops were closed. Because of the already de moralized conditions along the line of the railway, as the result of rebel actively, the strike has j caused the greatest concern. Railroad officials refuse to discuss the situation beyond stating that the strike will not cause a tie up of the lines and th*'t they believe regular train service can be maintained. At a number of points bridges and stations have been burned by the revomtionists and long stret ches of roadbed destroyed. The employes expressed the demands some weeks ago with an ultimat um that if they were not acceded a strike would be called ^fore the end of the year. No initima" tion had been given, however, that today was selected as the date of the w al k-ou t. 2$ acre good red land farm, 2 miles from toinniv 3*room, frame cottage, good barn and granary 18 acres in cultivation, balance in pasture. The State Dispatch is in re ceipt of a very peculiar turnip left in our office during the Christmas Holidays. The turnip resembles the growth of three turnips all together with a sepa rate root from each all three joining together. The turnip is about the size of a half gallon tin. We have been looking at the turnip and expect to soon put it to safe keeping. —P. n attendant at a certain in stitute for the deaf and dumb was undergoing a pointless rapid- fiire inquisition at the hands of a famale visitor. “But how do you summon these poor mutes to church?’' she asked finally with what was meant to be a pitying glance at the in mates nearby. “By ringing the dumb bells, madam” restorted the exasperat ed attendant.—Tid Bits.
