The young man is now in a Ral eigh hospital where he was im mediately taken' for treatment. The shooting occured at the saw mill of W.T. and S, L. Hunt. According to the story that is brought to Durham by Chatham county people, the father and son got into a dispute over some questions and as a result of the quarrel the father levelled the gun and pulled the trigger, emptying a full load of shot into the boys neck. Just what the trouble started over could not be learned, but it is said that the Hoy was also armed and that when the man shot him he was advancing on him with a drawn ax. Tar Heel Boy And Girl Desert Ten Days Baby Richmond, Va., April 7,— Leaving a 10 days old baby cooing on a bed in the [Gilbert hotel, P. T. Fergus 21 years old of Wilmington, N. C. and Miss Mary Bowden, 18 years old. of Goldsborc', N. C., acknowledged parents of the baby, were taken in charge today just as they were boarding a train for the south charged with the childs abandonment. The young man was sent to jail pending a hear ing tomorrow, and the girl was sent to the Maternty home, Miss Bowden says she was leav ing the batjy against her will and that she had contemplated end ing her life wiien she reached home. Fergus admits being the father of the baby and says he will marry the girl. When the Post suspended he bec.ame editor of the Newbern Sun, and later to the Greensboro News, of which he was associate editor at the time of his death. Dating back many years Mr. Phillips has been reading clerk of the State house of representative and had a thorough knowledge of the States public men. Rotund and jolly his sunny dis position endeared him as closely to statesmen as it did him to his wide circle of newspaper friends. He had just concluded his labors with the legislature and was spending the day at his .mothers when he was stricken. The deceased was a member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Press asso ciation and one of its vice presi dents, was foremost in its coun cils and the life of its meetings. ^^CROSSING THE BAR.'^ As Tennyson's nurse was isitt- ing one day a,l his bedside, shar ing to a degree the general anxietj s bout the patient, she said to him siidde,iily; “You have written a great many poems, sir, but I have never heard anybody say that there is a hymn among them all. It proved to be “Cross ing the Bar,” the poem that was sung in Westminster Abbey at Tennyson’ funeral, and which has touched so many hearts. Still Fighting in Mexico. Naco, Ariz , April 7.— General Ojeda’s 300 Federal late today again went out from Naco, Son ora and bombarded the State t*'oops’ line. The State troops who number' nearly 2,000, fell back and Ojeda returned to the city. X Governor Pesquira telegraphed General Obregon to hasten the campaign against Naco so that the movement might be made against Guaymas but Obregon is said to be waiting for artillery from Hermosil'o. In the meantime Ojeda is throw ing up strong fortifications about the border town. Yonkers, April 1.—Arrested on a charge of st^*aling $27 in a hotel here, William Frazier con firmed the suspicions of the offi cers when he choked and cough- up tw^o greenbacks. The police say he tried to swallow them. When arraigned t/efore Judge Beall today Frazer said he mis took the bills for chewing tobac co.
