New Bern, Feb. 13.—Mrs. S. 11. Watson is dead and Mrs. W. E. Weeks is in a local hospital suffering from injuries which are expected to prove fatal as the result of the explosion of a can of gasoline at the home of the two women, 183 Queen street, this morning. The two women had arisen :ind were preparing to start a fire with which to prepare the morning meal. A can of gasoline and a can of kero sene were sitting near the stove and, thinking that she had the kerosenn can, Mrs, Weeks turned thisfup and began to pour the contents into the stove. She had taken the wrong can and immediately there was a Hash and the room was filled with flames. Mrs. Watson was horribly burned. Before the blaze could be extinguish ed both women’s clothing were burned from their bodies and their Sesb roasted.
