When did it become disloyal for a democrat to differ from a democratic president on an issue which the pre- ident declares tjj be non-partisan?” This will be the position of the Bryan following in Congress, ac cording to th« judgment of adminis tration men, wiio have followed the view of Mr. Bryan since his retire ment from the cabinet. In eonfress it was claimed today the element that prefers larga appz^priations for river and harboi- improyements »nd post- o®pes to appropriations for the na tions] defense will stand solidly be hind Mr. Bryan. This “pork barrel” vote will form the neucleus of the Brynn forces in opposition to the ad- mlni.irtration of program. unless they have another split at the national convention or put up a can didate offensive to one of tKeir two distinct factions, they will confront the Democracy in 191U with a prac tically united front. When the Re publicans do this, the strongest Dem ocrat ir bound Id have a very hars! fight to win. President Wilson’.^ friends say that he is stronger than the Democratic party. In some ways he undoubtedly is, but his ability to carry the country ug-aiu.st an undivid ed opposition has yet to be demon strated. The wise lenders in both of the great poltical camps are di.scount- ing all of the “waikover” talk that is heard and are looking forward ti3 a red hot and close contest. If Mr. W^ilson will accept a renomi nation it is his without the asking.
