THRONG OF BUYERS CONTINUE. Do Not Treat Umpire and Visiting Players With Consideration. Under the aboye caption The Ral eigh Times tells of some incidents in the recent Charlotte-Raleigh games that did not get through in the ac count of the games sent here. It is to be lamented that there are such 4 poor sports and attendants on the games in the capital as are pictured in The Times' story. In all the Ave years of organized ball in. Charlotte not one indignity has been heaped upon a visiting player, nor has the umpire had to suspend play to clear the field of spectators. There is a lot of good-natured rooting and a lot of noise made by the grandstand, but never such as pictured by The Times in the following: "Most people who attend bail games attend for the pleasure they get out of watching the contests, others apparently attend for the chance of offering insults to the op posing players and the unlpire. That was the case Tuesday afternoon. Ninety-five per cent x of the crowd Tuesday was forced to hear the other five per cent rage and storm and hurl epithets at Mr. McBrlde. One fellow barely missed the head of a Char lotte player with a thrown bottle. "The cause of so much boisterous ness at ball games le easy to ex plain. What consideration can one expect the Capitols to get in the other cities of the league when it be comes known that the Raleigh baseball fans do not treat visiting teams with any courtesy? Aside from this feature, umpire-baiters ought to know that the men who are financ ing baseball in the Capital City are dependent upon the public to make baseball successful here. It cannot be made successful if certain men arfYl boys continue their ungentlemanly conduct.
