Parks, a venerable and a highly esteemed lady of Charlotte, died In this city, at 6 o'clock last Sat urday afternoon, at the ripe old age of 90 years and 29 days. Mrs. Parks died at the residence of Mr. C. C. Moore, on Graham street, hav ing been taken sick while on a visit to Mr. Moore. Of late years she had been living with her grandson, Mr. D. P. Hutchison. Mrs. Parks was born in Rowan county, this State, and was a daughter of Matthew Locke. She had been liv ing in Charlotte since 1837, and for 58 years was a member of the First Presbyterian church here. Her life was spent in doing good deeds, even down to her final sickness, and all of our people mourn over her loss. The funeral services were conduct ed from the First Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon, by Rev. Dr. A. W. Miller, and a very large congregation gathered to pay the last respects to the memory 6f one of the truest Christian women and one of the best ladies ever known in Charlotte. Missionary Addresses. The Rev. Mr. Page, an Episcopal missionary to Japan, who is on leave In this country for a short time, spent yesterday in this city and de livered two addresses one in the morning at St Peter's and one at St. Martin's Chapel in the evening. The reverend gentleman had large and attentive audiences at both places ; and more highly delighted ones were never assembled in Charlotte. Mr. Page's style was simply captivat ing, and not one present but re gretted the close of his address The facts and figures in connection with his work in Japan, as given by the missionary, was so interspersed with bits of individual experience and incidents of Japanese character that they never had time to become Irksome. His report of the work bv the missionaries in Japan is highlv satisfactory, and will doubtless stim uuiate the Church at home to still greater efforts to send the gospel in to heathen lands. Mr. Page goes next to Salisburv. Wherever he goes he will carry with him the best wishes of the many who met him here, and their earnest prayers for his success in his chosen field In his divine Master's vineyard ... -Our Stock of r JLLillU "' OUarlotte, 3ST. o. r CAPACITY 'DOUBLED.
