An additional subs. Tit -tion of f 100 was made to The News,' fund today, which brlDgs that fund upto$f00, without any solicitation whatever. This merely indicates the popularity of the movement, and shows what may be expected when a real offoit is made to secure the park. It is a beautiful square, shad ed by magnificent oaks, eliua, pop lars, spruce, cellar and other varie ty of trees, and could be converted into a beautiful park, with a very small outlay of cash. The proposi tion is to erect the Mecklenburg Declaration monument in a central part of the lot, and to have the bodies now interred there removed to Klm wood cemetery where the graves are cared for; to tear down the unsight ly brick walls, run a neat line of granite curbing around the square, put up a fountain or two, crop the grass, lay out the walks, trim the trees, place benches af eonvenietit places and there s the prttiiesl park to be found in the South.
