Miss Jingles Harkey, who has been sick at her home, four miles from the city, is able to be out. The Friday Afternoon Book Club will meet with Mrs. Joe Solomons to morrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. W. M. Farrow,, of Newells, has ac cepted a position in- the furnishing de partment of Tapp-Long Co. The Woman's Christian Temper ance Union will meet tomorrow after noon at 4 o'clock in the parlors of the Y. M. C. A. There will be a lawn party at Amity church tomorrow (Friday) night. Every one is invited to be pres ent. The Young Ladies' Aid Society of Graham Street Presbyterian church will give an ice cream supper at Vance Park tonight. The proceeds will go to the society.. Bishop A. Coke Smith, and Mrs. Smith, left this morning for Norfolk. Bishop Smith will give the committee here a definite answer as to his mak ing Charlotte his home, by Saturday. Mr. Jack N. Harris is to be mar ried today to a lady in Norfolk. Mr. Harris was Mr. Dick Busbee's prede cessor in the insurance stamping office here. The excursion Saturday to Moores ville, run by the Sunday school of East Avenue Tabernacle, will take a large crowd from Charlotte. A big picnic and other attractions will be prepared for those who go. The scenery for the stage of the Academy of Music, arrived yesterday and is being placed in position today. It is really very beautiful and attrac tive. The drop curtains have also ar rived. The Young Peoples' Society of Christian Endeavor of Westrrinister church will hold its quarterly social and business meeting Friday evening at the residence of Mrs. Philip Lance, on the Boulevard. All the young peo ple of the congregation as well as members of the society are invited to be present. The educational committee of the Young Men's Christian Association has decided to hold a class in reading and writing this winter for boys and young men who have been deprived of op portunity of gaining even the rudi ments of an education. A number of young men have already expressed a desire for such a class. Miss Mary O. Graham will teach the class. A. G. Knebel, State Secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association was in town this morning conferring with the local officers about a confer ence on work for boys to be held here September 23 and 24. Secretaries of the local Associations in North and South Carolina will attend the confer ence. Mr. Knebel reports a licely in terest in the work in the Carolinas with prospective organizations at a number of points. An Important Meeting. The Young Womans' Christian Asso ciation will hold an important meeting at the rooms of the Association on West Fifth street tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. All interested are re quested to be present. The meeting was to have been held today but was post poned for sufficient reasons.
