"Is it." inquired Mr. Henpeck, thoughtfully, "Ive never had an oppor tunity to find out, she usually does all the talking." TESTING IT. "You were sitting on that young man s knee last nieht. May." "Oh, well, pa, he's an upholsterer, and we were testing the furniture. HER IDEAL. Bess What's your ideal of a man? Jess A man who has both sand and dust. DISTRESSING GAYETY. Clara Do you suffer from insomnia? Alice Yes; it's awfully mean to be kept awake half the night by another girl having beaux on the porch next door. HER USUAL METHOD. "How does you wife manage to kill time in your quiet little resort?" "I haven't heard her say, but I sup pose she uses her usual method talks it to death. HE HADN'T SEEN IT. ' I shouldn't think Barbler would let his wife paint her face that way." "I'd do the same thing if I had to live with it all the time." NOT A MATTER OF OPINION. "Was he a dry speaker, dear?" "Oh, he couldn't have been! His nose was just as red as it could be." AT THE BOARDING HOUSE. Chorus of Boarders Is this all we have for supper? Mrs. Sly Yes. We will have light suppers hereafter so that we can get through early and play ping-pong. A good idea isn't it? PRACTICAL ADVICE. Managing Editor Well, what's the trouble? Assistant The beauty editor is away and a woman wants to know what to do with a wrinkle in her forehead. Managing Editor Tell her to putty it up and forget it. A Powerful Search-Light. The latest invention is that of a signal light which it is claimed will penetrate the heaviest fog for a dis tance of half a mile. If it is a success many accidents on both land and sea can be averted. Much interest is be ing manifested in the discovery, the same as in any other invention that is intended to save life. This is the reason so many people have been in terested in Hostetter's Stomach Bit ters during the past fifty years. It is recognized as the best health maker and blood purifier in existence, and with good health and pure blood, dis ease cannot find a foothold. It is there fore specially adapted for persons m illhealth and who suffer from heart burn, indigestion, dyspepsia, constipa tion, or malaria, fever and ague. Try it. A Reminder of a Tragedy. In his book "All the Russias" Henry Horman gives an interesting, descrip tion of the bedroom of Czar Alexander II, which is kept exactly as it was on the morning he left it. He was brought back an hour after he left it, bleeding to death from injuries inflicted by the assassin's bomb. As the room' was, so it remains. The half-smoked cigarette lies upon the ash tray in a glass tube. A little revolver lies before the mir ror. Upon each of the tables and upon several chairs is a loosely folded clean handkerchief, for it was the Czar's wish to have one of these always with in reach of his hand. There lie all his toilet articles a few plain bottles and brushes. It is all modest beyond belief and the brushes are half worn. Les lie's Weekly. CASTOR I A For Infants and Children.
