V V V... . v.-. --"- CHARLOTTE NEWS, DECEMBER 25. 1903- 8 t . . , "" ' i .ii i in - - I - mi mi. , M, CHRISTMAS SERMON. At St. Peter's Episcopal Church This Morning. At St. Peters Episcopal church this morning at 11 o'clock a large congre gation assembled to attend the Christ mas day services, the sermon being de livered by Rev. G. M. Tolson. The text was taken from Rev. 21, chapter and third verse.' Behold the tabernacle of God is with all men and He will dwell with them and they shall be his peo pie and God "himself shall be with them and be their God." The speaker said in part: "This verse announces to us God'i fellowshin with humanity. Our Christ mas thoughts naturally cluster about the cradle of the Christ-child at uetn lehem. Jesus Christ by the value of his fcirth of thp Virein Marv has fellow ship first with motherhood. There should come unto motherhood a purity and virtue that motherhood never knew before. Every . time a mother bends over the cradle she feels by vir tue of the link between her child and thfi Christ-child that she has been blessed above women. Another thought is that Jesus Christ by his birth has fellowship with all of us. As it pleased God that a smile of infancy should play over the features of the Christ child. So all Christ life is consecrated and blessed of God. Again the fellow shin of Christ is with all who are born and live in object poverty in this world. Jesus Christ being God could rhnose the enviroment of his birth and he choosed to be born a peasant and as his birth place he chooed a manger, thus announcing his ieuow ship for all time with the poor and lowly. Jesus Christ would be known always as the poor man's friend and in Christ the poor man can always find a brother. Yet on the divine side Jesus Christ was one of the purest aristo crats. As he lived his life of lowly poverty he announces this fact tnat tne king with his crown and the Noble with his nobility are not to be com pared in greatness to the aristocracy cf heaven. Naturally on this day our hearts go out to the poor. The feeling should abide with us however, all through the Christian year. May God give to each of us this sym pathy that is found in the heart of Christ. Lastly I would emphasize the fellow ship of Jesus Christ by virtue of his life and death with every sinner in the world. That which makes every man's condition here so pitable is that he is a sinner . Let us realize the fellowship oi Christ with us as sinners, but let us also remember that Jesus Christ has no fellowship with sin. The es sence of sin is disrespect to God and his law. There is no fellowship with your sins in the heart of Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a sinless man. There was no spot of sin upon his white soul and he therefore can have no fellowship with sin. It is a shame that on the day which makes the anniversary of God's gift to the world that those who have given themselves to God will put their hands to shame. My God, help us each and every one to keep our hands from sin. The church was beautifuly decorated with evergreens and holly and a beau tiful illuminated star appeared through the evergreens in the rear of the church, behind the altar The regular services preceding the sermon were most impressive, being the beautiful Christmas service of the church, and were taken part in by the entire con gregation.
