Will Monroe Charged With the Theft cf $30, the Property of Agent Thorn. s Will Monroe, the well known negro rorter who runs on trains Nos. 7 and S. was arrested at Salisbury Thursday afternoon, charged with the i-.irceny of some money. The Salis Lury "Post has the following con cerning the alleged theft: "Will Monroe., the colored porter on passenger train No. 7, was arrest ed when the train arrived here yes terday afternoon at .4 o'clock by Offi cer Kimball, of China Grove, and was cetained bv the officer in a smoker until the train arrived at China Grove. Conductor Coble went his bond and lie was permitted to continue his run lo Charlotte. "Monroe is charged with the lar ceny of $30, dropped by Agent Thorn, cf the Southern, at the China Grove tint ion early in the week. The negro c-.enics that he got the money. The trial was set for 9 o'clock this morn ing and Hayden Clement, Esq., went to China Grove to appear for the defendant." DELIGHTFUL MUSICAL. Second of a Series By Richardson School of Music. An unknown thief played a strange game on North Tryon street this morn ing at 1:30 o'clock, and a part of the man's movements were witnessed by Mr. Charlie Roberts, at Wadsworth's livery stable. The man came down North Tryon St. until he reached the jewelry store Communion at Hopewell. The mid-summer communion ser vice of Hopewell Presbyterian Church will be celebrated Sunday, August 5th. The pistol shots fired, about six in all, only served to add speed to the ne gro's running, and when he was last spied by the officers through the shad ows on the sidewalk, he was making , record time. If he kept that pace up J long he must have gotten wen Deyona the city limits before the officers re turned from tiieir race. In the store nothing is missing as the man was inside only a short time, and then emerged at the front door and went away. There is no clue as to w'-io the man was. Torrcnce uas held from St. Peter's Episcopal Church this morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. Harris Mallenckrodt, the pastor, conducted the services.
