THE CHARLOTTE NEWS, AUGUST 27, 1900. io BRIEFS. Mr. H. R. Wilburn, of Daytona, Fla., is visiting friends in the city. itev. A. J. McKelway, D. D. is supplying this month the pulpit of Rev. John W. Stagg, Birmingham, Ala. Mr. Nelloe Games will leave for Bluefield, W. Va.4 Wednesday, where he will work for the N. & W. Ity. Mr. John McKinney of Providence township is said to be quite sick with typhoid fever. He has been ill for some time. Postmaster Smith will install 150 new lock boxes at the postoffice to meet, the demands which have been filed recently. Rpv S. A. Stewart of Monroe filled the pulpit yesterday at the Tryon Street Methodist church m the aosence of the pastor. Mr. C. A. Smith, of the Oliver Typewriter Company has returned to . his duties after spending a few days at Asheville on his vacation. A game of ball will be played at the park this afternoon for the bene fit of the Good Samaritan Hospital. The Fats and Leans, colored, will be the opposing teams. . i-Protracted .services are being held tit Matthews' Methodist church, the pastor, the Rev. H. Hoyle, being as sisted by the Revs. G. C. Harley, of this city, and N. S. Ogburn of Mon roe. Mr. Brice Williams of Morninng Star township, who has been working this summer in central Georgia, has returned to his home. Mr. Williams will return to Erskine College in the fall. ' Bell and Fonville, local representa tives of the Sage and Company, brok ers, which were recently declared in solvent have moved their oiffce from this city to Fort Mill, S. C, where they will conduct business in the fu ture, , . Mr. Ed. G. Mullen has purchased some stock in the Atkinson Drug company and will, after October 1, be connected with tnat firm; Mr. Mullen has been with the Mayer Drug Com pany for a number of years. A letter received today from Prof. H. P. Harding who has been spending the summer at Cleveland Springs states that he will arrive in the city next Thursday, and will be ready for the opening of the city schools on the following Tuesday.
