Has Be(Hi Largely Identified with Success of the Enterprise.- - . : -Mi-.' ' ' If was 'learned to-day that the man aging committee of the Montreat Asso ciation has offered Rev. Dr. J. R. How erton of this city the position of Presi Hpnt and General Manager of the mountain resort. Dr. Howerton has been largely in strumental in the organization of this association and when the plan was adopted to build up the section around this ideal spot, making it not only a pleasure resort for the summer but a place for religious gatherings, tne efforts of Dr. Howerton counted very largely for the success which has at tended the enterprise. By his perseverance and energy he disposed of $50,000 worth of the lets which Were -placed on the market for sale and received besides applications J for about $20,000 more. The idea of the management is to establish a theological seminary at Montreat together with a public lec turing platform and Chautauqua on the order of the Winona Lake resort which is at the present under the man age ment of Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman. Since the present company took control of the property at Montreat and1 instituted plans for future de veloptment, its popularity has been ' widely increased until there are now eighteen states represented there. It is a delightful spot, entirely suitable in situation and environment for the purpose which the directors have in view. ' Dr. Howerton's attitude to the new position offered him is not known. His people here are greatly attached to him and would regret very much to learn of his acceptance of any position that would take him from their midst. !
