Recognition of his success is written on the minutes of State and National Oorgani:iations of local Building and T.oan Associations. At the time of his death he was presi dent of the North Carolina State League and second vice president cf the National League. He loved Char lotte. her peo])le and her institutions and he was beloved by them. He died ill active service. He will be missed. Therefore, be it Resolved by the board of directors of the ^Mechanics Perpetual Building and Loan Associa tion of Charlotte. N. C., in Special Session assembled this 16th day of February. 1911, that in the sudden and lamentable, but peaceful demise of the honored president of this associa tion, it. the community and the coun try at large have sustained a loss which seems well night irreparable; and yet his kinsmen and his friends should take cheer and comfort from the beneficent results of his efforts in noble causes and from the good that will follow after. Resolved further that this memorial be siieard upon the minutes of the Association as a modest token of the board’s appreciation of this man and his work; that a copy be sent by the Secretary to his bereaved family and that these resolutions be pulished in the newspaperbs in the city. The following resolutions were adopted by the building and loan as sociations of Charlotte: “Resolved, That the following build ing and loan associations of the city of Charlotte through their respective boards of directors duly assembled, ever mindful of the great work accom plished for the building and loan cause by Mr. Samuel Wittkowsky, now de ceased, desire to record their sincere appreciation of said work, and to com mend his eample of fidelity and un tiring efforts to his many follow^ers. “That we realize in his death the taking away of one of the most active, enthusiastic and successful advocates the cause has ever possessed, and that we cherish the hope that the great ambition of his life, that is, the crea tion of a wider sympathy and more liebral co-operation on the path of all our people in the great plan of ‘home-ow’nership,’ may be realized by those of us he lea’^es behind. And, further, that this accomplishment may be a source of much comfort to those 'I'he Conclave of the t.'arolinas of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic or der, will hold thir first annual bi-state convention here next Tuesday, Febru ary 21st. Heretofore North and Sotuh Cavch lina have constittited two territorial jurisdictiojis, with Mr. .L W. Conway territorial deputy for North Carolina and Mr. Joseph R. Allen, of Columbia, territorial deputy for South Carolina. Now the states have been consolidated and at this meeting a deputy will be elected who will have jurisdiction over the two states. . On Monday night the visiting knights will be the guests at a lecture to which the g('iieral public v ill be admitted for LM cents, ’^'he lecture will be delivered by Senmas McManus-, the noted Irish humorist, lecturer and magazine writer. The lecture will be held in O’Donoghue Hall. The convention will begin Tuesday itiorning with solemn high mass and the meeting will be called to order at 10 o’clock in the Knights of Columbus hall. At .5 o’clock in the afternoon the visitors will be given an automobile ride over the city. Ai 7 o’clock they will be guests at a private dinner in the private dining room of the Sel- wyn. The entertainment feature of the convention will be a theatre party at the Academy of Music at 8 o’clock. On Wednes-day they will be given an automobile ride to Belmont Abbey. The whole convention has been planned on an elaborate scale and a gi'eat time is expectcd.
