Raieigh, N. C., March 1.—The state
commissioner of ins-urance has can
celled the license of the Grand lYa-
territy. of Philadelphia, to do business
in ’this state. The commisioner had
occasion to send a representative of
the de))artraent to the home office to
investigate Its affairs and the repre
sentative was refused permission to
make the examination. It was on the
strength of this refusal that the com-
inissioner made the order cancelling
the license of the fraternity to do
bus-iness in this state.

leston division of the Southern Rail
way, spent yesterday in tlie city in
conference with Mayor John T. Rod-
dey, and inspected various sites ap
propriate for the company’s shops.
The shops here are now located in the
business centre of the city on less than
an acre of ground. The company
wants from seven to ten acres, for its
is the purpose to greatly enlarge the
shops. Mr. Wassam was highly pleas
ed with one site and has referred the
selection to the authorities at Wash
ington.
