MEETS There will be an important meet ing tomorrow at 1:30 o’clock in the Offices of the Greater Charlotte Club at the Selwyn hotel, for the purpose of hearing the first report of the com mittee w'orking on the Norwood-Char- lotte railway proposition. It will be remembered that at the recent visit here of the gentlemen from Stanly county a committee of three was appointed fi’om the Greater Charlotte club and three from the Bus iness Men’s Club of Norwood, to can vass the situation thoroughly and re port at their earliest convenience as to the outlook for the early construc tion of the road. The committees have done their work most thorouoghly and are very enthusiastic over the outlook. An experienced railroad man has been over the entire proposed route of teh road and gives as his opinion thal the road can be constructe(l at a cost of not less than $20,000 per mile and not over $25,000. Xo actual survey has yet been made, but the engineeT. w'ho is a very comnetent and expe rienced builder of roads, is convinced that the road could not cost over $25,- 000 per mile to construct. But the most important thing in con nection with the meeting will be the presence of two railroad men whose names aie not yet given out, but who have been attracted by the Xorwood- to-Charlotte project and w ho may take a hand in building the road. The re sult of the meeting will be watched with interest. It is predicted that a railroad connecting Charlatte and Nor wood is strong probability for the near future. The gentlemen appointed by Presi dent C. O. Kuester of the Greater Char lotte Club, to look after the interests of the movement at this end of the line are Messrs. D. P. Hutchison, chairman. M. C. Mayer and C. G. Creighton, from the city, and Mes srs. X’. S. Alexander and .T. R. Hender son of the county. b'OR SAl^E—Sigle comb Rhode Is- litiiu lleils. Sweden, ne.\t year, was made ))ublic here today. .Many events unfamiliar to .\nierican athletes are on the cai'd. Xew conditionsfl for in stance, govern the .javelin throw and the shot ];ut. In addition to the free throw, there will be throws by the left and the right hands alternately. The Swedes and Gormans are said to be adejits at this style but it is sure to be a handi cap to most of the Americans. Competition will start June 30. with lawn tennis and target shooting. On Jul.v 7 the real athletic competitions will begin with the 100 metre race. The big event of the meet—the Mara thon race—will be run .Inly The distance has been made 24.8.'* miles in stead of the resnlation 26 miles 3S,j yards. Club Smoker To-morrow Night The best cigars the town affords— })Ossibly the Duke brand—have been bought by President Kuester. of the Greater Charlotte club, for the smoker tomorrow night. Many things pertaining to the va rious affairs in which, for the city's sake, the club is interested in, will be discussed, but there are no gigantic ^■chemes to be proposed or disposed of. The smoker is a social affair for all the club members. INDIGESTI0 N The question as to how long you are going to continue a sufferer from Indigestion, Dyspei*sia or out-of-order Stomach is merely a matter of how soon you begin taking some Diapepsin. If your Stomach is lacking in diges tive power, why not help the stomach to do its work, not with drastic drugs, but a re-enforcement of digestive agents, such as are imturally at work in the stomach. People with weak Stomachs should take a little Diapepsin occasionally, and there will be no more Indigestion, no feeling liek a lump of lead in the stomach, no heartburn, Sour risings, Gas on Stomach or Belching of undi gested food, Headaclies, Dizziness or Sick Stomach, and. besides, what you eat will not ferment and poison your breath with nauseous odors. All these symptoms resulting from a sour, out- of-order stomach and dyspepsia are generally relieved in five minutes af ter taking a little Diapepsin. Go to your druggist and get a 50- cent case of Pape’s Diapepsin now, and you will always go to the table with a hearty appetite, and what you eat will taste gfx)d, because your stom ach and intestines will be clean and fresh, and you will know there are not going to be any more bad nights and miserable days for you. They freshen you and make you feel like lief is worth living. AMUSEMENTS Metropolitan Grand Concert Company. Mine. Luella Chis-holm-Orhani, so prano: Miss Adah Campbell Hussey, contralto; Mr. J. Those present were: Misses May and Viola Cook, Mary Abernathy, Bessie and Annie Beatty, Viola and M.vrtle Wig- ens; Messrs. Jack Neal and otliers. Music was furnished by Mr. Loan Davis. Mr. John Little and Miss Myrtle Wigens led the figures in set No. 1. It was fully enjoyed by all. Too Much Ceremony. A Cincinnati drummer happened to be put at a table at Columbus with a number of legislators, and the courtly w^ay in which they addressed each other greatly bored the commercial traveler, says an exchange. It was, “Will the gentleman from Hardin do this?” and “The gentleman from Franklin do that?” They invariably spoke to each other as „ae gentleman from whatever county they happened to hail from. For 10 or 15 minutes the drummer bore it in silence. Then he suddenly crushed the statesmen by singing out in stentor ian tones to the waiter, “Will the gen tleman from Ethiopia please pass the butter?” That ended the “gentleman from” business.
