Chicago, Ilk. April 3.—Heavy rain
fall in Kansas where most needed, car
ried down the price of wheat today
with decided vim. Bearish sentiment
had further cause in a snow fall
throughout the entire Northwest. Ex
cept covering by shorts who were in
a position to realize profits, there was
practically no buying support for the
market. Moreover, cash demand gave
no sign of inii)rovement and receipts
appeared ample for all requirements.
The opening was unchanged to l-4a3-S
lower. May started at S5al-8 to 3-8, the
same variation from Saturday night
as the option list taken altogether. A
drop to 84 3-4 promptly followed.
Corn weakened under the influence
of wheat, notwithstanding some com
mission house liuyio on acocunt of wet
weather. May opened imchanged to
l-Sa1-4 off at 4!'. 5-vS lo 3-4aT-8, rallied
to 47 and fell back to 4! 3-4a7-8.
Oats sufi’erpd from consid rable pres-!

siii’e but proved more stubborn than ;
other grains. May started a^ he same 1
level as Satuiday night to a shade
lower at 29 3-4a7-8, touched 3-4 and
recovered to -.0.
With the hog run far ahead of last ^
year, provisions took something of a {
tumble, I'irst sales were 5 to 10 cents
cheaper with May options at 140.5 for
pork: SIO for lard and 852 1-2 to o5
for ribs.

Coca Cola
Case Nears End
Hy Associaled Press.
('hattanooga, Tenn., April 3.—The
ti'ial of the coca cola cases is draw
ing to an end and it is thought that
the lawyers will begin argument by
Tuesday. At this morning's session
of the federal court Judge .T. S. Cand
ler was further questioned upon
the contract with Dr. Schaefer for
luanufacturing “merchandise No. 5,
an ingredient of the drink.
Tlie defense read the translated
dejiositiou of J)r. Oswald Schmeide-
herg, taken at Kehl. Germany. The
ansV'.'ers were almost identical in
tnost instances with the opinion of
Dr. Schmeideberg, written* for the de
fense.
The substance of the deposition
was that caffeine was not harmftil
when taken in tea, coffee and other
caffeine bearing beverages, including
coca. cola.
Inspector Lynch was recalled and
testified further as to conditions he
foinid in the coca cola factory which
he claimed were unsanitary.
Dr. L. F. Kebler was recalled and
gave further details as lo* his experi
ments in ascertaining the effect of
caffeine.
