at the Southern ManuTaciur-
ers* Club Begins an Auto
Exhibition Given by The
United States Motor Co.
The first automobile show ever to
be held in Charlotte was initiated this
afternoon by the United ^lotor Char-
lotfe Company under the direction of
Ham & Ross, by a banquet at the
Southern Manufacti’.rers' Club, the
banquet being given to the twenty-odd
agents of the comi)any in the Caroli-
na.s.
The baniiuetcrs assembled at the
chii) at 2 o‘ch)ck and short adilresses
were made i>y Messrs. W. F. Smith,
eastern agent of the I'nitec] .Motor
('ompany and Mr. C. K. Hayme, assis
tant supervisor of the eastern district.
The banquet wa,s wholl.v informal and
was very enjoyable.
••\t 4 o'clock the second part of the
pioeram will begin at Ham Ross'
place on West Fourth street, where
tiemonstration v;ill be given of the op-
erancn and mechanism of the Max
well and Columbia inotor cars and the
.Sampson motor trucks. The machin-
er\’ will bo operated by an attached
motor and will be uncovered so as to
give visitors a chance to observe the
machinery in every detail. Everything
cor.nected .with the construction and
The operation of the cars will be rep
resented.
From ♦' to 7 o'clock refreshments
will be served and Richardson's or
chestra will furnish music. Again from
N to 10 the same orchestra will play
and refreshments will again be serv

The remains of Mr. Andrew C.
Hutchison, sr., whose distressing
death at Alta Vista, Va., shocked this
community yesterday, reached Char
lotte on the early morning train to-
da\. The bod.v was taken to .1. ^l.
Hariy & Co's, undertaking establish-
men', and later to the residence on
^^■est Trade street. Accompanying
the body were Mr. .lohn Hutchison,
fcon of deceased, and Messrs Egdert
and .lohn S. Hutchison, brothers. Mrs.
M. A. j-Iutchison. mother of deceased,
and Mr. Chas. Ellis, brother-in-law,
arrived from Greenville. S. C.. this
morning; also Mrs. Egbert Hutchison
and children, from Mt. Holly.
Mr. .John Hutchison reached Alta
^'ista last night. He talked with those
V ho were associated with his father,
and examined his papers. He found
nothing that wordd suggest that his
father i'.ad premeditated, for a mo
ment, the desperate act of yesterday.

5 o'clock this afternoon at the rest-
dpnce, Rev. Dr. A. A. McGeachy, of the
Second Presbyterian church, who was
Mr. H'Ttchison’p pastor officiating.

Died On Train
Mr. Robert P. Rutledge, jr., died sud
denly on the Irain today between
.\shevillo and Spartanburg. He was
on hh; way home from Asheville where
lie had been in a sanatorium. Heart
disease is said to be the cause of
death.
Deceased is well known in Charlotte.
He is a son of ]\Ir. and Mrs. R. P.
Rutledge. Ueside his parents he is sur
vived by his wife and two children,
and two sisters, Mrs. W. S. Dudley, of
this city, and Mrs. Thos. Wayne, of
Savannah.
Deceased had many friends here who
will hear of his death with sorrow. He
was about 25 years of age.

Died Yesterday
Mrs. Annie Smith died yesterday
afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at her resi-
lence on P'^uclid aventie, Dilworth, af-|
ter a comparaHvely short illness. She
v,as about 68 years of age and is

Mr. Erskine Smith, of i.his cily, and
Mrs. Bv^n Cunningham, of Pineville.
