This is \vijai a prominent Chaiiolte business man
said of his e.\i»erience witli a small classified adver-
ttoement in The News;
‘T am not much of a hand at giving testimo-
lilais and don’t like to see my name In print except at
the bottom of an advertisement, so I don't want you
' Ko and print what I pay to you over my name. You
, !'.o\v I never did use The News for advertising until
lasi month and then I ran a little For Sale ad that
brought me so much business that I think I ought to
tell you about it. You see I had some lota I wanted to
sell and I spent a little more than J175 trying to find
buyers for them. Evidently the expenditure was not
wisely made for aside from some experience with meth-
odp that will not sell real estate ft brought me noth
ing -nor a single buyer or even an inquiry from a pros
pective customer. Nothing the matter with the lots.
pric* all right and terms easy but no one was inter-
• sied. Then I put a little ad in the classified columns
uf The News and it seemed as if every one wanted to
know about my lots. To the people w'ho answered
that little ad I sold nine lots. It was a revelation to
i!ie and if the advertising had cost me $100 I would
b>*ve cnn^iderod the money well spent. Your bill, how-
ov^'r. snys I owe you sT cents. I’ll pay it, and here-

Egan Met Moser
in Six Round Bout
Kid Egan, a boy who has stood
before Abe Attell twice and who has
fought some of the best ones In the
country met Earl Moser, the “Sailor
Boy,” h^ere in the auditorium last
night for a six-round bout. No decis
ion was rendered, but Egan was
easily the victor. He carried the fight
all the way, poking out. his jaw
and Inviting a swat upon It. Be It
said to the credit of Earl, that he
hit as hard as he could but the licks
amounted to but little. Egan has a
head that won’t be jarred but a
very little. The match was one of
the best ones seen here in a long
time.

May Hold Sunday Ser
vices at Comty Jail
For some weeks of late two or
three Christian people, filled with a
desire to do some good for the fallen,
have been holding meetings at 5
o’clock on Sunday afternoons in the
Mecklenburg county jail for the ben
efit of those who are so unfortunate
as to have been placed there.
The attention of some of the young
men of the city having been called to
this work and learning that an organ
was needed in the meetings, they
placed the matter before the Young
Men’s Bible classes of four Sunday
schools. Second Presbyterian, Trinity
Methodist, First Baptist and First
Presbyterian, with the result that an
organ has been secured and placed
at the disposal of the good peoplte
who are engaged in carrying on this
work.
As this work progresses there Is a
need of additional helpers and it Is
sincerely hoped that a number of
people will be found who are willing
to devote an hour on Simday to this
noble work. Any one who is so dis*
posed will be doing the right thing vo
go to the meeting on next Sunday af
ternoon.
Why doesn’t somebody write an
article on how to build one of those
$1,500 bungalows at a cost of less than
$5,000?

Baird School Finals
On Monday Evening
The closing exercises of the Baird
school will take place Monday evening
at Hanna hall, Y. M. C. A. building, at
8 o’clock. Although the school actually
closed Wednesday, the commencement
exercises were postponed until Mon
day night because of the congestion
of all the other events of the week.
The exercises on that evening will
consist of declamations, essays and a
debate. The school has had a very
prosperous year and has developed
among the young men some debaters
of more than usual ability.
The public is cordially invited to
come to the exercises.
“What a strangely Interesting face
your friend the poet has,” gurgled the

the elements of happiness and sorrow,
each struggling for supremacy.” “as,
he looks to me like a man who was
married and didn’t know it,” growled
the Cynical Bachelor.
**The ColoneVs Maid*^
Given Again Tonight
At the request of many friends the
faculty and students of the Southern
Industrial Institute will repeat the de-
dellghtful little play, “The Colonel’s
Maid” Friday night at the Institute.
It was presented for the first time
several weeks ago and the friends were
very insistent that it be repeated. But,
because of the ru&h'of work it has been
impossible to give It before now. Be
cause of the increased familiarity with
their parts the members of the cast
will be received with even greater en
thusiasm than they were on their first
appearance..
