The Amity local of the North Car

Wednesday to the county officials ot
the Farmers’ Union and an enjoyable

Mr. P. C. Harkey on the Monroe

Uai't. S. R Alexander, who is an
honorary member of the county or
ganization. made an interesting ad
dress. as did also Mr. J. W. Phillips,
county organizer. An elegant dinner
was served and delicious refresh
ments were dispcns-ed throughout the
day.
Thf' Amity local is the youngest
4n the county and one of the most
progressive, it has a membership of
between and t^O. perhaps the
largest of any in the cottniy. It was
organized last March and has given
a ,uood account of itself o'er since.

At that hour the report was; “A pretty

The water was pumped to the regu

We can not say positively as to

about 60^,000 gallons a day.”

Real Estate Deal
OJ $50,000 Closed
S. W, Dandridge & Co. Sell
10,000 Acres of Land in
Wayne County, Tenn., to
Southern Real Estate Loan
and Trust Co.
The S. W. Dandridge Real Estate
and In&urance Company of this city
has sold to the Southern Real Estate
Ixjan S: Trust Company and the Car
olina Realty Compan>, of this city,
se-eral tracts of real estate in
Wa>ne count.'. Tenn., aggregating
lo.itito R( res. The deal has just been
negotiated by' representatives of the
two purchasing companies and Mr.
S. W. Dandridge, of S. W. Dandridge
& Co.
The exact consideration for the
land is not stated, but is said to be
slightly in excess of $50,000. The
land is all in Wayne county, middle
Tennessee, and is in contour much
like Mecklenburg county. It is farm
ing land of a fine quality and much
of it is still heavily timbered in
primeval forests. It is one of only a
few such areas that are still to be
had in that section at such figures
so reasonable.
This constitutes probably the larg
est real estate deal ever made be
tween two Charlotte firms and is
also no doubt the largest area of
real estate ever purchased by any
group of Charlotteans. The purchas
ing companies, it is under&tood, will
offer the land for sale and develop
ment at once.

SCHOOL B'lDC.
i.'ntil .Mr. Hirshincer s ultimatum
in regaru to th“ South srhooi building
appeared in The News, some suggest-
inz fhat the huilding be abandoned
a:-, a .~f-nool and converted into a city
hospiral.
Mr. Hirshincer. who is hicrh authori-
tv on the school board, puts a quietu;
on this proposition, by saying that the
board has no idea of abandoning or
tearinc dox\ n ihe old building, bi;t vill.
Instead spend $10,000. gh ing it the
light, ventilation and heat that it lacks.
Speaking of the building beinc con
verted into a hospital, a physician of
the fit.' said:
The iiuilding would make a fine
city hospital. The galleries are there,
the rooms pre a(feKsible, could easily
be divided and made comfortable. Re
side. each hurch could have a ward,
if it S.0 desired. It would be an ideal
place for a city hospital.”
Many of the older citizens will re
member that as for back as the 70's
the late Dr. .Io=;eph Graham urged the
city having a hospital and each church
having a ward in it.
Perhaps the day is not far distant
when I>r. Graham’s idea, re-ex
pressed by a prominent doctor of to-
dav, will be realized.

had given Mrs. J. (I. Baskerville and
family ai n02 North Tryon street, a|
great freight.
He walked or stumbled into the
Baskerville home, went in the parlor
and la}- down. The police were
'I honed fo rat once and Officer Elliott
responded at once and placed the ne
gro under arrest. He was evidently
very drunk. He scarcely knew what
he was doing after he reached the sta
tion.
The officers believe he was drunk
on cocaine.
He made no attempt to create a dis
turbance at Mrs.Baskerville's, but
merely wandered in and lay' down. He
stpted to the officers that he had been
drinking since last Friday, but stoutly
denied that he had had any cocaine.
A Good Market, This,
For Native Products
As evidence that Charlotte is a
good market for home raissd vege
tables rind that the farmers of the
county are wide-awake to that fact,
the experience of Mr. A1 Alexander,
of Sharon, may he cited '\'esterday
he brought a load of tomatoes to
town with him in his buggy. He
made no special effort to sell his
produce as he drove through the
Elizabeth Heights section and on
up-town toward the square, but be
fore he reached the square he had
SKJld twolve dollars worth of toma
toes.
Many other farmers have had sim
ilar experiences this season and the
demand for home-raised vegetables
and farm products in preference to
imported articles of the same na
ture is constantly growing.

Major A. G. Rrenizer and Mr. W. S.
AJexander, of the building committee
of the Commercial Bank building re

water level and the trouble arising
therefrom delayed the work, and nec
essitated the committee seeing the
general contractors. This Messrs.
Brenizer and Alexander did. Work on
the foundation will be resumed to
morrow and pushed rapidly.

Thies’ Salve
Mr. A. Thies, Charlotte. N. C.; Dear
Sir—For more than ten years we have
been users of your salve and have no
hesitancy in recommending it as a
most excellent household medicine;
in fact, my w’ife says she could not
keep house through the barefoot sea
son without it. We have found it es
pecially useful for cuts and all other
hurts from pin scratch to a nail
Avound. Several neighbors have tried
the salve on our recommendation and
are fully as well pleased as we are
with its splendid curative properties.
Yours truly,

Are You a Business
Man ?
You would not take a trip without knowing who was going to
manage your business while you were away. Do you know who is
going to manage your business affairs w'hen you pass off the stage
of action? You answ^er: "’Why. certainly; I have appointed my best
friend, and a man of great ability, the executor of my will.” Suppose
he should die or become incompetent—Then what?
THERE IS A LITTLE GIRL in North Carolina—not a hundred
miles from Charlotte—whose father died four years ago. Since then
gho has had three guardians—-first, an uncle, who did not live very
long; then another, who died also. Now she has her third guardian.
She tays:, "It looks like every one I love dies.”
THE AMERICAN TRUST CO. DOES NOT DIE. That is one
reason why so many of the best men in North Carolina are appointing
