Sept. 6.—Pope Pius today ratified the decision of the consti tutional congregation, presented by Cardinal De Lai, appointing the Right Rev, Joseph M. Koudelka, of Cleve land. as auxiliary archbishop of Mil waukee. The appointment of the Right Rev. Mgr. J. M. Laval, vice-general of the arch diocese of New Orleans, to be auxiliary archbishop of New Orleans also was ratified. In addition Mgr. T.aval is created titular bishop of Hierocaessarian. The children at Barium Springs are looking forward to the picnic excur sion to be nm there from Charlotte on Friday with great interest. The program and all the plans for a great day for Barium have been perfected. Rev. W. T. Walker, superintendent, will make the address of welcome w hich will be responded to by Mr. C. H. Caldwell, of Sugar Creek. A great picnic dinner on the campus is expected and every one is urged to carry abundance not only for the gath ering but for the orphans. Each congregation is expected to have a committee of men also of ladies that will meet immediately after the addresses and disctiss things that can be done for the benefit qf the institu tion and report back to their several congregations. Sometime during the afternoon t'le Dental Room will be dedicated. This is being furnished by Tenth Avenue Sunday school and several dentists have already expressed their willing ness to go to the orphanage and do flental work for the orphans free of charge. The Steel Creek Band will attend and enliven things by their music. Ticj^ets on sale at Woodall & Shep pard's. Every one is invited. Train leaves Southern station at 8:30 Friday morning. The management has provided am ple accommodation. Bnejs —Mr. Eli Springs, Jr., left this morn ing on his return to the Virginia Mili tary Institute. —Messrs. W. M. McCubbins and N. M. Ardrey have gone to Florida with the intention of locating in some part of the state. —Mr. Jasper O’Connell left this morning for Davidson College to enter the first year’s class of that Institution. —Mr. J. M. Jamison has purchased a lot in Myer’s Park at the corner of the Providence road and the Park road. He will erect a handsome residence there at an early date. —Mr. Thomas Gaither, w^ho has been undergoing treatment at the Sanator ium on account of carbuncles, was to day dismissed, his physician pronounc ing him restored to his usual health. Mr. Gaither underwent an operation on the right side of his head. The wound has healed and he feels like a new man. His many friends rejoice with him in his restoration.
