C., Oct. 18.—Ernest "’ebb, a 15-year-old boy who is charged . i-.h feloniously killng his 13-year-old ' er, Mary Webb, about two weeks -^'0 at their home in Leicester town- ip, near Newfound, was given a pre liminary hearing before Magistrate W. R. Gudger yesterday. The hearing was Miginaly set for one day last week but a continuance was granted the de- f-^nse. The hearing was f r-un at 11 o’clock this morning and . i.)cei>8 taken shortly after noon. The :ourt convened at 3 o’clpck and the rial brought to a close. Atlantic City, Oct, 18.—As a pre cautionary measure against the de velopment of hydrophobia, John Boyd, who proved himself a hero several days ago at Ohio and Atlan tic avenues, when he seized a mad dog and prevented it from running among a crowd of school children, has been tent to the Mercy Hospit al, Pittsburg, to be kept under the closest observation, Boyd was bitten by the dog, and his case was brought to the attention of Dr. John Buchanan, a Pittsburgh specialist, ‘-^o was staying at Ga len Hall. Dr. Buchanan immediately became interested in the case, prin cipally because of Boyd’s heroism, and arranged to have him cared for at the hospital. Ran kin was last week appointed as tem^ porary receiver of the Asheville Hard ware company and Judge H. P. Lane has now signed an order making the receivership permanent and Mr. Ran kin Is ordered by the court to wind up the affairs of the business. The Indebtedness of the company was found by the court to aggregate 191 000 and of this amount, 122,500 is due’ the National, State and City Bank of Richmond.
