Engineas Heie onNexiFnday On Friday of this week-the moat distinguished body of road-Duilding engineers that ever came to tne city will be visitors here for a day. The party will he composed or nrty highway experts who are the guests of the Indian Refining Company, oi New York. They will stop here for the special purpose of inspecting Mecklenburg’s xoads, with especial reference to the ten miles of liquid asphalt binder manufactured by I. the Indian Reflining Company and laid on the Pineville, Statesville, Camden, Yorkville and Lawyers’ roads. The body of engineers aref rom eleven different states of the Soutn and West and various parts of the country. They are being given a trip to the grand prise race of the Sa vannah Automobile Club over the famous Chatham county roads to be held on November 30. The road oil department has the matter in charge. The party is traveling in private cars completely equipped in all details. They will go to Savannah tomorrow, where they will be met by the Chath am county commissioners, and w’ill be taken by auto to one of the model convict farms of the state, where they will be treated to an old-fash- lon^ barbecue. All of Thursday w’lil be devoted to witnessing the grand prize race and Friday morning the engineers w’ill arrive here and spend the day looking over Mecklenburg roads. The entire trip is in charge of Mr. A. B. Chamberlain, manager of the road oil department, assisted by Mr. Samuel R. Finley, sales manager ot the Southern offices in Atlanta. The Greater Charlotte Club will take the engineers out in automo biles to see the Mecklenburg roads and local autoists are asked to co operate with a committee, consisting of Messrs. C. O. Kuester, W. T. Cor- with, D. P. 'Hutchison and >1. C. Mayer, in transplanting the engi- |neers to various places about the city. SEVERE EARTH SHOCKS WERE RECORDED.
