November 14. 1947 THE C. C U. N. C. NEWS Page 3 The- OWL’S EYE By Ed Mann' Guest Columnist, Hillard Knight Saturday November 15 will see more cusin’ and fusin’ about parleys and upsets, but who am I to worry; I never miss, yak^ yak! except when I lay a little change down — then I never win — and I suppose that’s the way it is with everyone. You would never believe it but there are quite a few teams that have not been beaten or tied this season. I’ll go on to name a few of the teams which have a golden horseshoe, around their necks. A few of the unbeaten are as follows : Michigan, Penn. State, Virginia. Georgia Tech, Utah, So. Methodist, Notre Dame, So. Oregan, and the Oaklahoma Aggies. Wonder how they do it, “Owls”? They must have honest referees. Note;— To the Owls’ Supporters — all three of ’em. Keep it up kids, you’re doing a swell job; but where are your friends? The player of the, week: Ed “Smiles” Wilson. Congratulations on your sterling line play in the Davidson game. “Smiley” wasn't alone in there, because little but powerful Bob Wilie stayed in Davidson’s backfield more than their own men. Some one told me they heard him hit that one fellow all the way to Central Ave. Eds. Note :— In the last paper we had a team picking. The results were Hillard gpt eleven, missed three, tied one, cancelled one; Footsie and I got nine, missed five, tied one, Hillard and I are trying this week. Just when Coach Footsie Woods had given up hope for the Charlotte Center of the University of North Carolina, Davis cut loose for a 4v yard sprint to pull the Owls ahead and win the game with a 8-6 scor*^ The Owls plan to meet their four th opponent Oct. 12 in Memorial Stadium, the Applachin Jayvees. Fred Boger and Bill Hendrix, two Charlotte boys, held the spotlight all night; however they held the spotlight for the Mountaineers wirh Hendrix scoring twice and Boger tallying once, completing two extra points. The most spectacular play of the game was the 60 yard pass from Webb to Hendrix who went over for the first Jayvee tally. Bob ''‘Goat” Davis made his usual sprint of the game when he slipped by the Mountaineers secondary anrl drove 52 yards for the final score of the game. “Goat” also connected to Dave Foreman for a 20 yard pass for the first Owls tally. The fourth period remained score less and the visitors went home victors with a final score of 20-12. Barnett and Foreman played their usual good game ; however the Owls line just refused to block Mathews who did an excellent job with that broken finger of his. Knowing ^^VOwI line was too strong, DavidTOfftook to the air for 105 yards passing at tack which brought the J. V.’s down to the C.'C. 1 yard line and Leach stepped over for Davidson to tie'tlie score, but not for long as Brown booted the extra point to win the game for the visitors. Last Weeks Statistics C C.
