Then, with 3:12 remaining, Lem- mond hit, and put Charlotte ahead by one. The lead then changed hands five times. Finally, in the last 50 seconds, Lemmond hit on a field goal, and was fouled, lie connected on the tree throw, to give die Forty- X'iners tlieir largest lead, tliree . points, at 79-76. The game was an overall team effort. • Altliough hurt badly by a large number of turnovers, Charlotte compensated by fighting savagely under the boards eacli time they began to tall behind. The team finished second in regular season matches. Lynchburg College, the home team, captured the tournament championship and bested the Forty-Niners in the process. The Hornets compiled a shabby 12-18 regular season mark, good only for fifth spot in the six - team league. Ken Imes provided the only bright spot for Charlotte by winning the singles event and finishing third high man tor all events. Lynch burg’s Marvin Jefferson took first place for all events, nudging out Ed Butterworth of St. Andrews by one pin tor the tiUe. Imes ended only six pins back of Butter- worth. “Ken could have won the singles championship if he hadn’t had one Seniors (Continued from Page 1) cellor’s installation on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week in the Student Affairs office. A St. Andrews doubles team grabbed the top spot in that event with an 1170 card. St. Andrews led the league dur ing regular season play but fell to fifth position in the tournament. Charlotte Drives To Second Place Charlotte’s bowlers put on a determined drive during the month of February to capture second place in the Dixie Conference re- guiar season final standings. The Forty - Niners clinched the lofty position by taking one of three games in their match with Metho dist while third place Charleston was dropping three in a row to league leader St. Andrews. Leading the team in the Metho dist match were Bill Crenshaw and Harry Griffin. Crenshaw en joyed the high game in the match with a 231. Crenshaw shared high series honors with Griffin, both rolling 566. In the previous week’s action, Charlotte forged into second place ahead of Charleston by destroying Wesleyan in three straight games while Charleston was handing two of three to Methodist. Crenshaw led the tenpinners in that match also with a high game of 205 and a 554 series. Final Standings For Bowlers GAMES POINTS HIGH HIGH TEAM W L W L GAME SERIES ST.
