4 PAGE 8 CAROLINA JOURNAL APRIL 19, 1967 Tams Rock Out As Students Swing Out BY FRANK COLEY A cherry bomb, a stick of dyn amite, a hand grenade, a bomb, an Atomic Bomb — well, at last we are gettingpretty close to equa ting the type of explosion caused in UNC-C Union Thursday night, April 13. This was the day that the Tams returned and an explosion is exact ly the type of action that their soulful songs and dances trigger ed. Frankie and the ' Funtimers, along with the Tempests highlight ed UNC-C’s New Arts Festival Week, April 9-14, with what has been called the most spectacular performance of the school year. The road manager, Otis Pope, says that the Tams consider them selves a type of “family group in-as-much as four of the fellows are from Atlanta area and that Charles and Joe are his brothers. The fifth member of the group, Robert Cottle, is a Charlottean. Robert stated that the only com plaint that he had was the seven days a week, sometimes twice a day, bookings. would like to give, or that they are not allowed to meet as many mem bers of the audience as they would Robert said that such bookings often keep the group from giving as much to the audience as they like. The Tams were backed by a group known as Frankie and the Funtimers who are from Atlanta.
